A useful and interesting article about recycling, especially in the DC area.

Note that "Montgomery County never switched to single stream, asking residents to put paper and cardboard in one bin, and glass, plastic and metal in another. Under this system, broken glass doesn’t contaminate the valuable paper and cardboard, and it’s less likely to break and easier to sort by color. Eileen Kao, with Montgomery County, says the county is able to sell clear glass for as much $30 a ton, and green and amber glass for $17 a ton."

Montgomery County has an alphabetical list of items, as well as a search function on how to recycle just about anything.
https://www2.montgomerycountymd.gov/DepHowDoI/search.aspx

Recycling is a part of daily life, but not everything you put in the bin gets recycled. Most glass, in fact, ends up in landfills.

How you can help TSA/FAA unpaid employees who are still working for us:

If you're flying from Dulles International Airport they have set up a Food Pantry to assist those airport employees affected by the shutdown. They are collecting non-perishable items at their information counters (Travelers Aid) located at bag claims #6 and #10.

They also understand there is a need for Gas Cards and are accepting them through at the same location. The Travelers Aid team is assisting in these efforts. Note that I believe there is a $20 limit on the gas cards - the max federal employees can accept.

If you're flying from another airport, check with them to see if they are also accepting donations.

it's the least we can do if we still want to fly during the shutdown...

Party in the Park - September 17

If you’ve never been, it’s amazing. If you have, you can’t wait to win a cake, put your child on the train or one of the rides we offer every Party in the Park.

What began years ago as a co-op dinner on the lawn in the park with blankets has blown up into a wonderful neighborhood get together with food catered from Mindy’s Catering and a terrific DJ, rides and of course, the ice cream man!

So get your cake recipes ready (we have many budding cake bosses in the community) for the cake walk prizes. Mark your calendars now for September 17. We’ll be contacting you sooner than you think about volunteering to help with our rides and bake a cake…hope to see you there!

Tuesday, May 9, Annual Election and Meeting

Join us for a little home-town democracy in the form of our annual election and meeting. Section 3 is an extraordinary place known for its civility and its desire to find new ways of bringing our community together. So why not join us to cast your vote and take a few moments to hear what’s happened in our Village in the past year and what we expect to do in the future.

Note - candidate statements are in the April News & Views, available on the website: www.chevychasesection3.org

This is the first contested election in years...we have four candidates vying for three seats...so please turn out and make vote. Then if you have time, stay at 8 p.m. to hear what has happened in the past year and what we hope to do in the coming year. Looking forward to seeing lots of new faces!
