The City would like to thank Isabella Turner and Joseph Fantasia for all their hard work in improving our City Hall's grounds this summer!

Isabella and Joseph participated in our new Youth Work Program, during which they worked with staff from our Public Works, Police, and Volunteer Fire Departments to perform a variety of upkeep tasks around our municipal building.

Some of their major accomplishments include maintaining and beautifying all the flowerbeds and planting areas at City Hall, cleaning out our Fire Training Room as it prepares for renovations, and organizing our Police Department's storage area. Their efforts were a great help to our staff and have given our municipal building a nice, fresh look as the summer winds down.

We hope the experience for the two of them was both educational and enjoyable, and we are very grateful for all the work they put in. We also look forward to offering this program to more local students next summer!

This coming Thursday, September 3rd, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm will be another Art Walk downtown in Chewelah! This will be the second of our pilot program events to include an outdoor dining experience and gauge the opinions of the public and local businesses.

East Main Avenue between 2nd and 3rd Street closed from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm to create an outside social space. Fired Up Pizza and Thai Street Food by Nina will both be serving food and alcohol inside their restaurants which can be taken out and enjoyed outside during the event. Sporty's Bar and Grill will also be serving food.

On behalf of the entire Chewelah community, the Chewelah Police Department would like to extend our heartfelt condolences for the loss of Colville Police Officer Aaron Davis. We recognize the profound grief that comes from losing an officer who had such a lasting impact on his community over his many years of service. Our thoughts are with Aaron's family, friends, and fellow officers.

Earlier this week, Fire Captain JC Smith and Chewelah Fire Chief Josh Duke led a wildfire preparedness presentation at the Chewelah Golf and Country Club. They discussed measures residents could take to mitigate the risk of fires, as well as evacuation procedures and firefighting protocols. They also shared information about the Firewise program, a community-led national initiative which could improve preparedness throughout our City.

We are grateful to Tammy Baxter and Jodie Duncan for raising awareness about these important subjects, and to Golf Course Manager Josh Olson for hosting the event!

Have you lost your bike recently? The Chewelah Police Department has recently recovered two bicycles and is hoping to return them to their owners. If either of these belong to you, please visit the PD at 301 East Clay Avenue!

Yesterday, a key ring with house keys and a Lexus fob was turned in to the Chewelah Police Department. We are trying to find the person they belong to!

If you have lost your keys recently, please visit the Chewelah PD, located at 301 East Clay Avenue. The Department's window is open Monday through Friday from 9 am to 4 pm.

From September 14th through 18th, the City will be picking up scrap metal on your day of regular garbage service. Some restrictions on accepted items apply - please see the flyer for more information.

This is a great chance to do some cleaning up as the summer winds down!

We would like to offer a friendly reminder to everyone to please abide by the three-hour parking limits for parking spaces on East Main Avenue. Our local businesses benefit from having open parking spaces available in front of their storefronts for customers, which the parking time limits facilitate. We appreciate everyone being mindful!

Stevens County Public Works will be performing road maintenance on Tuesday, August 18th, in the area north of Lincoln Avenue, west of Stevens Street, and south of Pinebrook Drive.

Crews will be spraying a layer of 'fog seal' over the road to lock in the chip seal improvements made by the City's Public Works Department at the end of July.

For Tuesday, August 18th please make sure that all cars, cans, and any other items are removed at least 10 feet back from the road surface before 6:30 am!
