Casper Mountain Trails Center celebrated its grand opening last weekend. Outdoor recreation enthusiasts enjoyed a ribbon-cutting event, opening 6.5 miles of new trail, information from many local outdoor organizations, Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day, and the opportunity to network with people who enjoy the outdoors.

The kids enjoyed the obstacle course in the drizzle. They seemed unfazed by it as they enjoyed the day. The future of outdoor recreation is in great hands. ❤️ Thank you for a great day on the mountain.

Did you know Medicine Bow Peak was also the site of a deadly airline crash seventy years ago on October 6, 1955? The crash killed all 66 people on board United Airlines Flight 409. In 2001, a marker was placed along Highway 130 in memory of those killed.

Do you know when and where the first labor strike occurred in Wyoming?

If you live near or have visited the Cody area, you might just know. The first labor strike took place at the Shoshone Dam in 1907. The laborers’ protest resulted in an increase in wages to $3 a day for a 10-hour day.

Did you catch that? Where is the Shoshone Dam in Wyoming? Aha! Trickery. The original dam built near Cody was not called the Buffalo Bill Dam until 1946. So, in 1907, it was still known as the Shoshone Dam. The dam was completed in 1910 and was known as the Shoshone Dam until it was renamed. Now you know.

Visitors can learn many interesting things while visiting the Buffalo Bill Dam, Reservoir, and State Park. One of the interesting facts is why that dam was built in the first place. It wasn’t for generating power. The Shoshone Power Plant wasn’t added until 1922. The main purpose of the dam was for irrigation. 💦💧💦

One of the most beautiful things about the dam and reservoir is something unintentional. In 1957, it led to what is now known as Buffalo Bill State Park. A Wyoming State Park that offers campgrounds, water recreation activities, day-use areas, picnic areas, wildlife viewing, large group gathering areas, mountain scenery, solitude, and relaxation.
