Sweet dreams, Big Boy .

Sunday morning, the western leg of the Coast-to-Coast tour begins! If you are coming out trackside, remember to stay 25 feet back from all railroad tracks at all times ; do NOT trespass on railroad property. If you are following the Big Boy, drive safely and be courteous to others.

See the official steam schedule at https://www.up.com/about-us/history/steam/schedule .

Ready for an unforgettable railroad experience in the heart of the West?

The annual UPHS convention will be held in Cheyenne Wyoming commencing on either Wednesday August 12 or Thursday August 13 and run through Saturday August 15. It will be held at the Red Lion Hotel which has totally renovated all the rooms this winter and is now in the process of renovating the main lobby and convention area. We are still working on the particular details but there will definitely be tours of the Cheyenne Roundhouse with various rolling stock outside to view. It looks like Cheyenne Depot Days will run the same weekend as our convention now giving us more opportunities,

The hotel is giving us a guaranteed room rate of $109.00 plus tax a night during the convention and two days before and after the convention if you want to stay and do some exploring. Cheyenne Frontier Days will run the last two weeks of July and there may be some additional activities afterwards.

The Winter issue of The Streamliner magazine has arrived. Members are now receiving their copies.
The issue contains the following three articles:

• Photographing the Overland – First Section, by Tom Brown

A vibrant photo essay of a young railfan’s visits along UP’s Overland Route in Wyoming and Utah in the mid-1960s, chock full of Streamliners, gas turbines and double diesels

• Lending A Helping Hand, Rock Island Equipment Financed by Union Pacific – First Section, by Chris Faulk and Rob Leachman

This article examines the equipment that UP leased to the struggling Rock Island Railroad during their merger process. This first part includes the background of the merger, shutdown and liquidation of the Rock Island and the diesels financed and sold second hand to the RI. The second part will cover the lease and return of the cabooses and freight cars.

• Union Pacific Model Announcements, by Steven Orth

Second sections of the two articles will appear in the Spring issue of The Streamliner.

Here’s the secret the best Union Pacific modelers know:
Before they buy a single freight car, paint a locomotive, or design a layout, they research. And they all use the same reference library: UPHS books.
Our books give you:
Prototype photos with dates and locations
Paint schemes and lettering details by era
Equipment rosters and specifications
Route-specific operational information
The kind of details that make or break a model
Available now:
Cabooses of the Union Pacific - Every caboose type, paint scheme, and detail
Union Pacific Northwest - Operations in Oregon, Washington & Idaho
Ogden Rails - The heart of UP operations
Camas Prairie - Branch line operations and equipment
Union Pacific Motor Cars - The McKeen cars in exhaustive detail
These aren’t coffee table books. These are reference manuals written by historians who know Union Pacific inside and out.
Build it right the first time.

These books covering the Union Pacific have been publish by the Union Pacific Historical Society.

UPHS members, it’s time for the next issue of The Streamliner. This is an excellent edition, and I believe you will truly enjoy it. We are pleased to have Dale Sanders as our editor. Under his leadership, the magazine has become more structured and has continued to grow in both quality and consistency. As you read this issue, I encourage you to think about where the content for The Streamliner comes from. Dale carefully selects each article—nothing is fabricated. The material comes from members like you and me. When articles are submitted without accompanying images, Dale works to find appropriate photos to enhance the piece. He also ensures that each article has enough visual content to make it engaging. If sufficient images are not provided, he takes the initiative to locate them himself. I hope you enjoy the Streamliner as much as I do. However, unlike many other historical societies, UPHS does not have a backlog of articles waiting to be published. If you have an engaging story or photographs that could support an article, please reach out to the editor to see if there is enough material for publication. If you have a topic, you are passionate about related to Union Pacific, write it up. Even if you have few or no photos, contact the editor—he may be able to help you bring that dream article to life. Articles may cover locomotives, freight cars, cabooses, passenger cars, or locations along the UP system. We also welcome modeling articles featuring UP prototype locomotives, freight cars, cabooses, and more. If you have created a UP model, document it and submit it to Dale for possible publication. UPHS is owned by its members, and member contributions are essential. Articles submitted to the editor are considered for publication, and we would much rather hear Dale say he has too many articles to choose from than that. he has only one left . With your support, we can continue to publish a high-quality magazine with a wide range of engaging content and ensure that The Streamliner remains active, relevant, and visible.
