By 1Lt Michelle Carey
Held April 24–26 at the Wyoming National Guard Joint Forces Readiness Center in Cheyenne, the annual conference brought together Civil Air Patrol members from across the state to celebrate achievements, share knowledge, and strengthen the teamwork that drives CAP’s mission of serving communities, saving lives, and shaping futures.
Accepting the award for 2025 Squadron of Distinction was Deputy Commander of Cadets, 1st Lt Keegan Fox, who also accepted the Quality Cadet Unit Award. This was the fourth consecutive year the 492nd was awarded the QCUA, and we acknowledge the hard work and dedication that the cadet team gave in earning these awards.
TFO Sophie Fox also earned the Frank Brewer Memorial Aerospace Award. This is awarded annually to cadets or adult members who have made outstanding contributions in aerospace activities. She was presented this award by Wyoming Wing Commander, Col. Rodney A. Burnett and Capt. Shannon Babb, Deputy Chief of Staff of Aerospace Education for Rocky Mountain Region. TFO Fox was also recognized for her part in helping recruit over 30 new members for a squadron in Florida while attending a powered flight academy.
Finally, Cadet Maj. Austin Thomas was awarded the Wyoming Wing Cadet of the Year. Presenting the award was Col. Rodney A. Burnett and Col. Terrance J. Holmes, Commander 90th Missile Wing, F.E. Warren Air Force Base. C/Maj. Thomas spent the year actively engaged in leadership opportunities by attending Cadet Officer School held at Civil Air Patrol National Headquarters in Montgomery, Alabama; serving as the Wyoming Wing representative to the region Cadet Advisory Council (CAC); serving on staff at Colorado Wing's Winter Encampment; and working as Wyoming Wing 2026 Encampment Cadet Commander. Locally, he is serving as his squadron's Deputy Commander for Operations and the Aerospace Education Officer.
We send our congratulations to the many other Wyoming Wing officers and members for their awards! It was incredible to see the great things the Wing is doing.
