SCAM ALERT: FRAUDULENT FEDEX TEXT MESSAGES

FedEx Freight has contacted the Rock Springs Police Department to make the public aware of a scam that is currently affecting numerous customers in the Rock Springs area.

Customers have reported receiving text messages claiming that a delivery was attempted. The messages then prompt the recipient to enter credit card information to schedule or initiate another delivery attempt.

FedEx Freight has confirmed that these messages are scams. Please disregard them and DO NOT provide any personal or credit card information.

If you receive a suspicious message, do not click on any links or respond to the text. Instead, contact FedEx directly using verified contact information to check the status of a package.

Please share this information with family and friends to help prevent others from becoming victims of this scam.

Recent consumer protection data analyzing scam trends reveals a massive shift in how cybercriminals operate: scams involving Artificial Intelligence aren't just becoming more common - they are becoming vastly more expensive for victims.

While general scam reports increased significantly year-over-year, reports mentioning AI jumped over 238%. More importantly, the average financial loss for AI-related scams skyrocketed by 618% (cloning real human voices, creating fake credentials, and generating believable deepfakes).

SCAM ALERT SATURDAY: SHOPPING ONLINE SAFELY

Online Labor Day sales are in full swing but before your confirm that purchase, here are a few things to keep in mind:

• Never click on an ad that pops up on social media or your browser. These pop-up ads can be trojan horses for malware, or fake websites designed to take your money and not deliver the goods.

•While shopping online, make sure to read the reviews and comments before purchasing the item. By reading all the comments, you may find out that the vendor is a scammer or sells subpar products.

• When shopping on Amazon, you are generally safer buying an item labeled ‘Amazon Pick’ than through the multitude of third-party vendors who sell on Amazon.

• Don’t fall for “free shopping spree” advertisements or promotions.

• Don’t enter a shopping sweepstakes without reading the fine print. Legitimate sweepstakes don’t send winnings through direct deposit, never require you to pay to get your prize, or need your credit card number to verify information.

• And most importantly, if a sale sounds too good to be true, it probably is, especially if you're shopping on a third-party online marketplace!
