ON THIS DAY IN 2015.

Crews worked through winter conditions to deice a C-130 Hercules and get it mission ready.

Deicing is one of those behind the scenes jobs that keeps the flight line moving when the weather turns, and it has to be done right before any aircraft leaves the ground.

Hazmat suits, EOD teams, and a C-130 Hercules on the flight line made for an interesting day on base.

Airmen from the 90th Missile Wing at F.E. Warren Air Force Base brought HYDRA FURY 2026 to the 153rd Airlift Wing on May 20, 2026, as part of a five day technical exchange focused on nuclear weapon accident and incident response.

The exercise pulled in EOD teams from across Air Force Global Strike Command alongside partners from the Defense Threat Reduction Agency, FBI, and Department of Energy. The goal is straightforward. Sharpen response protocols, tighten interagency coordination, and keep skills current across the agencies that would work the problem together.

ON THIS DAY IN 2019

Repair and Reclamation team worked through a snowy spring storm to flip a downed airframe on base. Spring weather in Wyoming has a way of showing up uninvited, but the mission does not wait for better conditions. It took hard hats, heavy cable, and steady teamwork to pull it off.

Senior Airman Kaylee Hess did not expect to end up in medicine, let alone medicine at 25,000 feet.

Now she is the 2025 Outstanding Aeromedical Evacuation Crew Member of the Year. In this video, the 187th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron technician talks about the teamwork behind the mission, what it takes to care for patients in the air, and what keeps her coming back.

Leadership Wyoming got a closer look at what the 153rd Airlift Wing does on a daily basis.

Program participants toured the base and took a flight aboard a C-130 Hercules to see the wing's airlift capabilities up close. It is one thing to read about the mission. It is another to feel a Herc take off with you in the back of it.

BLAST FROM THE PAST

On this day back in 2017, members of the 153rd Airlift Wing CDDAR team (Crashed, Damaged, or Disabled Aircraft Recovery) put their training to work lifting a retired airframe using airbag recovery systems.

The job takes patience and a lot of coordination to get an aircraft safely off the ground and ready for transport. It's the kind of work most people never see, but it keeps the flight line moving when things go sideways.

BLAST FROM THE PAST

On this day in 2017, things got a little strange around the 153rd Airlift Wing.
Members underwent moulage, the art of applying mock injuries and wounds to create realistic medical simulations. The convincing detail gave Airmen the chance to practice life-saving procedures in scenarios that looked and felt real. The zombie theme was just a bonus.

It’s a routine part of winter, but it has to be done right every time.

Before a C-130 Hurcules can take off, any ice buildup has to be removed to ensure proper lift and safe flight conditions. Even a thin layer can affect how the aircraft performs.

Airmen at the 153rd Airlift Wing use a boom lift to deice the aircraft, clearing critical surfaces so it’s ready for the mission.
