NDEAM Week 3: What Makes a Good Job Match?
October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), a time to celebrate the many talents and contributions people with disabilities bring to the workplace.
This week, we’re talking about finding the right job match. Finding the right job isn’t just about finding a position someone can do—it’s about finding a job that matches their interests, strengths, skills, goals, and comfort level.
When people enjoy the work they do and feel comfortable in their work environment, they are more likely to feel confident, engaged, successful, and satisfied in their jobs.
For example, someone who loves animals, enjoys hands-on work, and feels comfortable around animals may thrive at an animal shelter. But someone who isn’t comfortable around animals may be much happier and more successful in an office or customer-service position. The goal isn’t just to find a job. It’s to find the right job.
