Hi Alpaca Friends: my shearing day is June 14, 2024. I want to make sure those who bring animals here know about it!

After looking at the weather forecast for tomorrow, I have regretfully decided to postpone my open ranch event for tomorrow. Details for the event will be posted later.

Hi to everyone from Arroyo Seco Alpacas. Amidst beautiful fall weather, four of my girls have produced lovely crias (babies.) The eldest is the biggest and the youngest is the smallest. If only I could get them to arrange themselves in a row according to size so I could take a really cute picture! Alas, getting alpacas to pose is like getting cats to pose - can’t be done. It’s hard to believe, but winter IS coming. I have many ultra soft and warm alpaca socks, hats, mittens, gloves, throws and scarves. Give me a call and stop by to see the babies and try on a sweater or two!

We are shearing our alpacas (by ”we” I mean the shearer and his crew) on May 31. I’d like to invite anyone who is interested in watching to come to my ranch that day. But be warned - you may be put to work! And don’t wear your good clothes. For information, call Lynn at 307-630-1491.

I guess I’m going to have a sleepless night tonight. Two of my guard dogs took off, and one of my house cats is missing (my favorite cat, naturally.)
Animals —can’t live with them and can’t live without them!

On the left are my skinny girls, shorn two weeks ago. On the right are three of my pet turkeys. Their job is to eat grasshoppers (I haven’t seen any this summer, whereas last year the place was teeming with them!)

I’m inside while a blizzard howls and snow piles up. I’m happy that all of the alpacas are in the two barns. I wish we could have crammed the horses and donkeys in somewhere, but alas there is no room even if we could get the donkeys to go inside, which is doubtful.
Given how big the snowdrifts are, we can’t get most of the doors in the house open unless we shovel a heart-attack inducing amount of snow first.
The house dogs were not crazy about doing their business outside, and one of them outright refused.
We have a very young baby alpaca that was born about two weeks ago. She’s a tiny dancer. Why walk when you can dance? I can’t get a good picture of her because she’s black, but will keep trying.
Stay warm!
