A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for parts of Colorado, Nebraska and Wyoming until 9 PM MDT. Large hail and damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph are possible, in addition to heavy rainfall and frequent lightning.

A second Flash Flood Warning has been issued for areas in east Laramie County and western Kimball County. Most of the concern right now is on the northern side of the polygon, but heavy rainfall with these storms may move slowly eastward to southeastward over the next few hours.

8:15AM 8/14 - An unsettled and wet weather pattern continues for our area through the weekend. Expect additional rounds of scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening hours on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Localized torrential rainfall causing flash flooding, isolated hail (which could accumulate in spots), and strong gusty winds will be the primary concerns each day.

For today (Friday), the primary risk area includes Laramie County and the southern Nebraska panhandle with the strongest storms mainly between 3PM and 8PM. Storm chances are lower today outside of this area.

For tomorrow (Saturday), the risk for strong thunderstorms encompasses a larger portion of the area, including most areas along and east of I-25.

A Flash Flood Warning that includes Pine Bluffs WY, Burns WY and Carpenter WY is out until 10:45 PM MDT. Turn around, don't drown!

2PM 8/13 - The morning round of showers continues to slowly move off to the northeast, but we are watching clearing skies to the southwest for new thunderstorm development. Locally torrential rainfall remains possible through the evening. In addition, a few isolated storms may be capable of producing strong, gusty winds and hail.

Update: As of 8:30AM 7/31, the radar has returned to service!

Previous Post: Due to a parts failure, KCYS radar is down until further notice. No ETA is available for when the radar will be back up, but parts have been ordered to get here as soon as possible. Neighboring radars can be used in the meantime.

UPDATE: SPC’s risk for thunderstorms has expanded slightly to the north and northwest from previous outlooks. So, expect thunderstorms to begin popping up just after noon in both southeast Wyoming and the Nebraska Panhandle and continue through the late afternoon and very early evening hours. The expectation is that most of this stronger activity should exit the region around 7 PM, so hopefully many festivities don't get interrupted!
