Today we remember Trooper Chris Logsdon, who lost his life 28 years ago today.

On October 13th, 1998, Trooper Logsdon was responding to an impaired driver report on Interstate 25 near Wheatland, Wyoming. As Trooper Logsdon crested a hill, the suspect driver was traveling the wrong direction on I-25 headed right at Trooper Logsdon. Trooper Logsdon swerved to avoid a crash with the oncoming vehicle causing his patrol vehicle to roll multiple times.

Trooper Logsdon was the second person to lose their life in the line of duty with Wyoming Highway Patrol. His sacrificed is never forgotten.

RAWLINS, Wyo. — Crews with Reiman Corporation will begin repairs next week on the Higley Boulevard overpass, which was struck by a semitruck on Interstate 80 in July.
Mobilization will begin Monday, Oct. 12, and will require the closure of the westbound and eastbound passing lanes of Interstate 80 between mile markers 213 and 215. Concrete barriers will be installed to close the passing lanes, ensuring a safe work area in the median beneath the overpass.
Repairs will include installing shoring, removing damaged concrete, injecting epoxy to repair cracks, and pouring a new concrete column.
Motorists should expect lane closures and reduced speed limits. Motorists are encouraged to obey all posted signs and signals, follow flaggers’ directions and other traffic control instructions, and avoid distractions such as cellphones while driving through the work zone.
The project is expected to be completed by Dec. 15. All WYDOT scheduling is subject to change due to weather conditions or material availability.

October is National Pedestrian Safety Month! Pedestrians are particularly high-risk to severe injury and fatality when struck by higher-speed vehicles.
Whether you're going across the parking lot or across an intersection, everyone is a pedestrian at some point!
Drivers: slow down - save a life!

Today we remember the first Wyoming Highway Patrolman to die in the line of duty, Patrolman Pete Visser.

In the early morning hours October 9th, 1981, Patrolman Visser was investigating a crash on I-80 roughly 17 miles west of Rawlins. While parked in the emergency lane of the interstate, Visser's vehicle was struck by a Datsun pickup. Despite life saving measures, Patrolman Visser suffered critical head and neck injuries. Pete Visser died of his injuries Monday, October 12th, 1981. Patrolman Visser left behind a wife and two children.

Patrolman Visser was the first person in the history of the Wyoming Highway Patrol to lose their life in the line of duty. His sacrifice will never be forgotten.

In anticipation of a winter storm this weekend, U.S. Highway 212 will close Friday at 2:30 p.m. Depending on the storm, the road is scheduled to reopen next week.

The Beartooth Highway closes for the 2026 season on Oct. 13, 2026.

October is National Pedestrian Safety Month! While the majority of pedestrian collisions in Wyoming last year occurred in daylight (53.8%), the majority of pedestrian fatalities were in darkness conditions (54.5%).
As the days get shorter and shorter, a reminder - watch for pedestrians!
