What is the purpose of this page? I am a downtown business and property owner. I am an Army vet and have been operating in downtown Cheyenne for 30 years. During during the pandemic the City of Cheyenne along with their contractors ripped out my sewer and flooded my basement causing damage in excess of 40,000 dollars. When they ripped out my sewer line, bentonite along with material from the street traveled down my sewer line where it met my sump pump. The sump pump couldn't pump this material out so it was pumped into other areas of my plumbing.
This left us without a functional sewer line or the ability to run water for 2 months during the pandemic. My building, property and business became uninhabitable and we faced the very real possibility of losing my business and becoming homeless. Which effected two families.
During this ordeal I contacted all levels of city government including my ward 1 city council members for help. At no point in time were any of my phone calls or messages returned and to this very day no one from the city has spoken to me about the damages they caused.
It was only through the support of friends and customers that we were able to force the city after 2 months to clear my sewer.
I reiterate. both Pete Laybourn and Jeff White, the 2 people who are suppose to be my representatives in my ward, at no time offered any support or communication whatsoever. The reason being is that they do not represent there constituents, but instead represent the establishment.
I have known Pete Laybourn for a very long time.when I started up my business in 1995 Pete was a fixture downtown. A guy who was always riding a unicycle around town, claimed to have a back problem, and has never had an actual job his entire life. Pete has been supported by his wife all of these years. With all this free time , ran for city council where he has worked to represent himself and his wife's properties and their interests including grants and money from the DDA.
This is a person who has never been gainfully employed, or ever had to work a job he didn't like just to support himself and his family. He has no real interest in the business owners families, and hard working constituents of Ward 1.
Ward I, like all the wards in Cheyenne needs council members who represent all the citizens, not just the establishment. Vote this bum out. Not fit for public office.
