It was known as the Wyoming Highway Department Employees Association, or W.H.D.E.A. Its purpose was then, and still is, to pursue good employee- employer relations. Because of the reorganization of state government at the beginning of the 90's, several transportation-related state agencies were combined with the Wyoming Highway Department and the result was the Wyoming Department of Transportation
. A new agency, made necessary a new association name. W.Y.D.O.T.E.A. for Wyoming Department of Transportation Employees Association would have been a hard acronym to wrap your tongue around so the association became the W.T.D.E.A., thereby maintaining a kinship with the original association name. As time passed, issues important to aid State employees obviously could not and should not be pursued by any one-agency association. In 1962, the Wyoming Public Employees Association, W.P.E.A., was formed in order that all State employees could be represented in employee-employer issues. W.T.D.E.A. is an internal association that deals with problems and the solutions to make changes to create better working conditions within the Department of Transportation. The W.P.E.A. is faced with the extensive job of lobbying the Legislature for better benefits for all state employees. The cost and time involved in this effort is excessive and requires the need to have all state employees participate. Membership in one does not confer membership in the other. membership is open to all employees of the Department. Members at each station constitute a local chapter. THIS IS YOUR GREATEST BENEFIT, YOUR VOICE IS HEARD AND YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Your association works only as well as the employees who participate in it. Department supervisory personnel have encouraged this system of operation
and have been more than willing to help seek solutions to any employee problems brought out through the association. Help us to continue this most important ambition
