Wyoming Stock Growers Association Caring for the interests of ranchers in Wyoming since 1872. These men were Tom and John Durbin, R.S.

In 1872 five men met in a livery stable in Cheyenne, Wyoming to organize a vigilance committee to cope with rustlers who were operating in the area. This meeting was regarded as the first step in the formation of the Stock Association of Laramie County, Which later became the Wyoming Stock Growers Association. Van Tassell, Charles Coffee and another whose name no one seems to know. On February 13, 1875, members voted to assess themselves for payment of detectives employed by the Association. This was the first mention in the organization's minute books in reference to the one big problem - cattle stealing - which had brought them together.

Are you or someone you know committed to sustainable ranching? Submit a nomination for the 2027 Wyoming Stock Growers Association Environmental Stewardship Award!

Applications require three letters of recommendation, one of which must come from a natural resource conservation agency, as well as responses to a few questions about the operation's conservation practices. Both nominator and nominee must submit statements of agreement regarding rules of the award program.

All applications must be emailed to [email protected] or shared via Google Drive at [email protected] by October 31, 2026.
