As an athlete, a parent of elite athletes, and a coach, I understand how important athletic opportunities are to our adolescents. Athletes don't just learn the technique...they learn they are ALL strong, powerful, and capable. They learn work ethic and discipline. They learn to dust themselves off when they lose, and they learn to lift up their opponents when they win.

Today marks 50 years of Title IX. Thirty-seven words allowed women to finally pursue athletic and academic opportunities at the next level, expanding gender equity nationwide for generations to come. Many of the girls you see on the fields and courts today will grow up to be the women you see on yard signs and ballots in the future.

Both my girls are elite athletes...and both have been inspired by the women on these yard signs. And now they get to see their names on the ballot. The future is right in front of us.
