A message from the SGA President, Gisselle Cervantes:
“In order to begin to end racism at DePaul, we need to begin listening to our Black community, and taking action to meet their needs. The Black Student Action Coalition has been actively working to uplift the Black student voice, and they have expressed that the University must cut ties with CPD.”
We need to continue to center, uplift and support the issues that Black voices on campus are organizing for:
The Black Student Action Coalition
The Black Student Union
S.T.R.O.N.G
The Office of Multicultural Student Success
The Department of African and Black Diaspora Studies

Today's Student Laureate Spotlight is Gisselle Cervantes from DePaul University. Gisselle will be graduating in June with a major in international studies and a minor in music industry. Gisselle made history by becoming the first-ever Latina elected to the DePaul University Student Government Association (SGA).

"The essence of Lincoln’s Leadership Legacy will be a guide in living a life of civic service and commitment to the greater good because of the way the Lincoln Academy carries on Lincoln’s legacy by leading by example. Everyday, people are living their lives in commitment to the people around them and leading a life of justice. Through efforts such as those carried out by the Lincoln Academy, an example is being set for everyone else on how to live a life of service. I have been inspired by the many people around me who live a life of civic service and commitment to others, which has inspired me to do the same."
DePaul University has always welcomed all talented and deserving students, of all backgrounds and any status, with open arms and open hearts. In 2017, DePaul University Student Government Association (SGA) spearheaded an initiative to provide scholarship support for undocumented students, who are ineligible for federal funds, by raising student fees by $3 per student. It was put to a vote, and our students voted to support their undocumented peers in this generous way. The Monarch Butterfly Scholarship was born.

Today, due to the impact of COVID-19 and the resulting economic disruption, our undocumented students need our help as much as ever. They are ineligible to receive relief funds provided by the U.S. Department of Education or stimulus funding from the CARES Act, and many are at risk of being unable to return to school.

Consider making a donation to help our students return to school in the fall. Your contribution can make a difference in the lives of our beloved DePaul Students.
