Take the time to thank a Veteran today!

As a Marine Corps veteran myself, Veteran’s Day holds a special place in my heart. Today, we pause to honor the courage and sacrifices of those who have served our nation, defending our freedom and values with unwavering commitment. My fellow veterans, your dedication to our country embodies the true spirit of resilience and patriotism, and I am proud to stand among you.

To our veterans in the Tunica-Biloxi Tribe and beyond, thank you for the legacy of service and bravery you have given us. Your contributions have not only protected our freedoms but have also inspired us all to strive for a better, stronger future.

Today, I extend my deepest gratitude to each of you as we honor your sacrifices, your strength, and your commitment. Semper Fidelis, always faithful.

Happy Veteran’s Day.

This we're sharing a post a day about our heritage, our culture and where we're headed. Follow along!

The Tunica-Biloxi Tribe of Louisiana is one of four federally recognized Native American tribes in the state. There are over 1,800+ enrolled Tunica-Biloxi tribal members interspersed throughout Louisiana, Texas, Illinois, other parts of the United States and the United Kingdom. Approximately 42% live either on or in close proximity to the reservation and designated tribal lands located in central Louisiana.

The Tunica-Biloxi Tribe is an amalgamation of the Tunica, Biloxi, Ofo, Avoyel and Choctaw tribes.

The component tribes were allied in the 18th century and became amalgamated into one in the 19th century through common interests and outside pressures from non-Indian cultures.

The reservation is located just south of Marksville in east-central Louisiana.

Tribal lands comprise approximately 1,717 acres of Trust and Fee property in Avoyelles and Rapides Parishes. Tunica-Biloxi history is closely intertwined with the history of Louisiana. Follow along with us during Native Heritage Month to learn more of our stories, culture and our innovations for the future.

❤️ Indigenous Peoples Day has been recognized for decades in different forms and under a variety of names to celebrate Indigenous peoples' history and culture in the U.S., and to recognize the challenges we continue to face.

It is typically observed on the second Monday in October, the same day as Columbus Day, a federal holiday established decades ago to recognize Columbus’ sighting in 1492 of what came to be known as the Americas.

Indigenous Peoples Day is meant to recognize the painful history Indigenous people have faced and to celebrate our communities. Recognition of the day itself follows organizing by Indigenous peoples since the 1970s.

In 2021, President Biden issued the first-ever presidential proclamation of Indigenous Peoples Day. He said in a statement that the day is meant to “honor America’s first inhabitants and the Tribal Nations that continue to thrive today.”

AIANTA will be closed on Monday, October 14, 2024, in observance of Indigenous Peoples Day.
