It was an honor to march with SEIU SEIU Healthcare and everyone else at the Federation of Labor Labor Day Parade yesterday! We celebrate the history, fights, and achievements of organized labor, collective bargaining and the working class, especially now when the fights are every bit as necessary! In solidarity forever!

Thank you to all the neighbors who took the time to give us feedback on the zoning change request at 2648 W. Lawrence! After receiving enormously positive feedback from the community, I have decided to support the zoning change, with the following updates suggested by neighbors:

⚡Building designs will be updated from electric-ready to 100% electric.
🕊 Building designs will be updated to incorporate requirements of the proposed Bird-friendly Building Design Ordinance.
🍽 Building designs will be updated to allow for a potential restaurant tenant
🎨 A mural will be added to the building facing Gross Park following completion.

Summer means that it's street resurfacing season! The following streets in the 40th Ward are being resurfaced this month:

📍W. Balmoral from Ravenswood to Ashland
📍W. Balmoral from Hoyne to Damen
📍N. Wi******er from Balmoral to Berwyn
📍N. Campbell from Granville to Glenlake
📍N. Campbell from Morse to Pratt
📍N. Hermitage from Edgewater to Olive
📍W. Carmen from Oakley to Leavitt

Residential street resurfacing takes about three weeks, weather and equipment permitting. The process starts by milling the existing asphalt to remove it, then adjusting utility structures, followed by laying fresh asphalt, and finally the reinstallation of pavement markings. There is always a gap between each step of the process, as they all require different equipment, material, and crews. Utility structure adjustments can add extra time to the process, since many of them belong to private utility companies who are responsible for adjusting those structure.
