While on patrol, Beat 1985G observed an SUV parked unoccupied in the 1000 block of W. Cornelia that matched the description of a vehicle CPD is on the lookout for that was involved in a burglary pattern. Upon further investigation, Officers determined the Florida plate was not registered to the same vehicle. A VIN check reported the vehicle stolen from Texas. Beat 1961 called Lewisville, Tx Police Dept. and learned that the vehicle was taken in a car theft/larceny case with named offenders. The named offenders approached the vehicle and stated it was their car as the Officers were clearing information. Subjects were detained for further investigation and a name check revealed that they were the named offenders with outstanding serviceable warrants. Officers asked if they had any weapons and the male subject stated he had a firearm in his backpack and recovered was a submachine gun with a standard magazine and a high capacity magazine of 10mm caliber. An additional extended clip was located inside the vehicle.
EXCELLENT job, Officers! Please, always be safe ๐๐ป ๐ฎ๐ป๐๐ฎ๐ฟ

After hours of SWAT intervention, subject was arrested and processed by the 1961 Team. Subject was on house arrest for a previous Unlawful Use of Weapon arrest prior to this incident. Search warrant produced the Weapon recovered and multiple spent shell casings, including outside of the building at the window of the apartment.

Sergeant Alan J. Haymaker served our Department for over 21 years and was assigned to the 23rd District (currently 19th District).
On this day, 13 years ago (2010), Sgt. Haymaker was responding to a burglary in progress. En route to the location, his squad car passed over a patch of ice on Lakeshore Dr. & Irving Park, making him veer off the road, hit a light pole and then a tree.
On that day, at 56 years old, Sgt. Haymaker succumbed to his injuries at Masonic Hospital.
(Burglary offender was apprehended)
Sergeant Haymaker, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN! Thank you for your service, Sir. ๐๐ฎ๐ป๐ค

As the offender attempted to flee, he was placed into custody by members of both teams and Officers recovered a loaded handgun in close proximity to the individual. Offender is on parole for a weapons violation as well as arson.
