Steppin’ in the Shade is Back!

Last year, Cole Park was packed with neighbors, friends, and steppers enjoying an unforgettable evening of music, fellowship, and community—and we're doing it again!

Join me on Sunday, June 28, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Cole Park (361 E. 85th St.) for an evening of Chicago steppin’, great music from DJ King George & Friends, and good company. Whether you're a seasoned stepper or just want to enjoy the atmosphere, there's a place for you.

Bring your lawn chair, your cooler, and your dancing shoes, but please remember alcohol is not permitted in the park.

Let's fill the park once again and celebrate community the 6th Ward way. I look forward to seeing you there!

Thank you to everyone who attended our 6th Ward Community Zoning Meeting last week. Your questions, feedback, and votes helped shape important discussions around development, public safety, and the future of the 75th Street corridor. I will also be sharing your feedback during this Friday’s Zoning Board of Appeals Meeting.

This is what community engagement looks like.

Residents have been asking for real improvements along 83rd Street since the late 2000's, and we have continued to push those concerns forward at every level.

We know the delays have been frustrating. A major reason for the slowdown has been required gas and water infrastructure work beneath the street, which must be completed before full resurfacing can safely move forward.

While this coordination has extended timelines, it is necessary to prevent repeated construction and ensure long-term durability.

We want to be clear: 83rd State to Cottage will be repaved and we are actively working with all partners to move this project closer to full resurfacing.

Our office has been in consistent communication with the responsible agencies to accelerate remaining utility work and prepare the corridor for full street restoration.

83rd Street is a critical corridor for our community, and we are committed to seeing it restored properly-not patched, but fully resurfaced with safer, cleaner, and more reliable infrastructure.

We will continue to push, track progress closely, and keep residents informed as we move closer to completion.
