Today marks a new chapter for public transit in our region. 🚆🚌

I am proud to celebrate the launch of NITA and the work that made this new regional approach possible—bringing CTA, Metra, and Pace together around safer, more reliable, better-connected service.

There is still more work ahead, but this is an important achievement and a strong step toward the public transit system our communities deserve.

Me da orgullo celebrar el inicio de NITA y el trabajo que hizo posible este nuevo enfoque regional, uniendo a CTA, Metra y Pace con una visión compartida de un servicio más seguro, confiable y mejor conectado.

Aún queda trabajo por hacer, pero este es un logro importante y un gran paso hacia el sistema de transporte público que nuestras comunidades merecen.

I’m proud to announce that we secured $1.5 million in capital project investments for the 3rd District in the FY26-27 state budget.

These investments will support:

🏫 $550,000 for Sabin Elementary
🏥 $400,000 for IWS Family Health Clinic
🌳 $300,000 for Riis Park
🤝 $150,000 for Saint Aloysius
🌳 $50,000 for Wicker Park
🏋️ $50,000 for McCormick YMCA

From safer school play spaces and more accessible parks, to expanded healthcare, youth programming, food pantry services, and community resources, these dollars are going directly back into the neighborhoods and institutions that serve our families every day.

Delivering resources for our community is what this work is all about.

Estoy orgullosa de anunciar que logramos asegurar $1.5 millones en inversiones para proyectos de capital en el 3er Distrito como parte del presupuesto estatal FY26-27.

Estas inversiones apoyarán:

As the daughter of two teachers, I know the power of education to shape lives, open doors, and build stronger communities.

I had the joy of visiting Locke School as a guest teacher and talking with 5th graders about government, public service, and how decisions are made in our communities.

Our young people are curious, thoughtful, and full of potential. Investing in their education means investing in tomorrow’s leaders — and I will always be proud to support opportunities for our children to learn, grow, and see themselves as part of shaping the future. 🏫🎒

Como hija de dos maestros, sé el poder que tiene la educación para transformar vidas, abrir puertas y construir comunidades más fuertes.

Tuve la alegría de visitar la Escuela Locke como maestra invitada y conversar con estudiantes de 5.º grado sobre el gobierno, el servicio público y cómo se toman decisiones en nuestras comunidades.

Illinois’ FY27 budget is a step toward stability as families face rising costs, uncertainty, and attacks on essential services.

This budget keeps Illinois moving forward by investing in public education, college affordability, food access, housing, medical debt relief, immigrant services, and local communities.

The work is not over. The Illinois Legislative Latino Caucus will keep fighting to protect essential services, close gaps, and ensure Latino families, immigrant communities, seniors, workers, and all Illinoisans receive the care, stability, and opportunity they deserve.

El presupuesto del año fiscal 2027 de Illinois es un paso hacia la estabilidad en un momento en que las familias enfrentan el aumento de los costos, la incertidumbre y ataques contra los servicios esenciales.

Este presupuesto mantiene a Illinois avanzando con inversiones en la educación pública, la asequibilidad universitaria, el acceso a alimentos, la vivienda, el alivio de deudas médicas, los servicios para inmigrantes y las comunidades locales.

A few weeks ago, I joined to provide hot meals for families and neighbors in our community.

This is what community care looks like: showing up for one another, building partnerships, and making sure families feel supported and seen. Thank you to Islamic Relief USA, our volunteers, and everyone who helped make this event possible.

As many observe the Day of Arafah and prepare to celebrate Eid, I wish peace, joy, and blessings to all who celebrate. Eid Mubarak!

Hace unas semanas, me uní con para brindar comidas calientes a familias y vecinos de nuestra comunidad.

Así se ve el cuidado comunitario: estar presentes unos para otros, crear alianzas y asegurarnos de que las familias se sientan apoyadas y tomadas en cuenta. Gracias a Islamic Relief USA, a nuestros voluntarios y a todas las personas que ayudaron a hacer posible este evento.

As a mother, a neighbor, and a representative of a district where many immigrant families live with fear and uncertainty, my heart is with the family of Silverio Villegas González, with Marimar Martinez, and with every person harmed by these abuses.

No investigation can undo the pain already caused. It cannot bring a father back to his children or erase the trauma felt across our communities. But it can help move us toward truth, accountability, and justice.

Illinois must be clear: racial profiling, reckless enforcement, and violations of human rights have no place in our state. Our communities deserve safety, dignity, and fairness — no matter where they were born or what language they speak.

Como madre, vecina y representante de un distrito donde muchas familias inmigrantes viven con miedo e incertidumbre, mi corazón está con la familia de Silverio Villegas González, con Marimar Martinez y con cada persona afectada por estos abusos.

Ninguna investigación puede deshacer el dolor que ya se ha causado. No puede devolver a un padre a sus hijos ni borrar el trauma que se siente en nuestras comunidades. Pero sí puede ayudarnos a avanzar hacia la verdad, la rendición de cuentas y la justicia.

Illinois debe ser claro: la perfilación racial, la aplicación imprudente de la ley y las violaciones de los derechos humanos no tienen lugar en nuestro estado. Nuestras comunidades merecen seguridad, dignidad y trato justo, sin importar dónde nacieron ni qué idioma hablan.
