Tails of Redemption had a wonderful time helping with last week’s Pet Food Pantry in Brookfield. The Cook County Sheriff’s Office patnered with Rescue Pack Chicago, Meals on Wheels, and Elks USA to provide pet food to those in need. We enjoyed helping our community and seeing all of the cute dogs that stopped by!

Pupdate! Venus, who was adopted in October, came to us from Waggin' Tails Animal Shelter/Cicero Animal Control and is doing great! Her owner is happy to report, “I've had Venus for 2 months now, and I'm so happy she's home with me – exactly where she's meant to be! I immediately bought a doggie DNA kit because I wanted to know everything I could about her. She's so happy, energetic, super smart, and gives about 100 kisses a day. She loves long walks, alllll the attention/belly rubs, and my niece (pictured) and nephew. I'm so thankful for Tails of Redemption for bringing Venus into my life!”

Pupdate! Pierre, who was adopted in June, is doing great! His owner says: “Things are good with Pierre. He's living his best life by either taking up the couch when watching TV or sleeping in a Queen size bed. He loves walks through the parks in the neighborhoods and making new friends with the neighbors. He absolutely enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner and passed out shortly afterwards into a food coma.”

Welcome, Coal, to Tails of Redemption! Coal came to us from South Suburban Humane Society @southsubhumane. He is a sweet, 10-month-old lab mix. We are hoping that with some one-on-one training and socialization in Tails of Redemption, he’ll make the ideal companion for a deserving family.
Let’s hope someone will get Coal in their stocking this Christmas!

Happy Thanksgiving from all of us at Tails of Redemption! We are very grateful for our trainers, staff, adopters, dogs, and our partner shelters, including Waggin' Tails Animal Shelter/Cicero Animal Control, South Suburban Humane Society, and Chicago Animal Care and Control. Without them, our program could not be possible.

We also want to thank all of our donors from Forgotten Dogs Foundation, who generously donated a grooming station, and to everyone who purchased items from our Amazon Wishlist.

November 14th was Bitsy’s three-year “gotcha” anniversary. Her owner says, “I could not be happier with the decision to adopt Bitsy. I fell in love with her as soon as I saw her, as did everyone in my household. She adapted quickly to her new home. Bitsy is the Queen of the Castle. We also have another dog and 5 cats, and, as you can see, they love her just as much as we do. Thank you for blessing our household with Bitsy Marie.”

Canelo was brought to us through our partnership with South Suburban Humane Society. He is a beautiful 3-year-old Pitbull who originally was going to be euthanized in Kansas before he was rescued by Bark4Compassion and sent to us. Canelo is doing great with all of his training, and we are so lucky to have him with us.

Pupdate! Lady Buttercup, who came to us from South Suburban Humane Society was adopted in July, and is living her best life and fits right in with her family. Her mom says, “Our family was blessed with an amazingly loving and beautiful dog. Lady has brought so much joy to our home and has helped me tremendously. She has helped our eldest daughter with anxiety. Lady is full-on part of my beautiful girl tribe. She is not only great with my daughters, but also my parents, siblings, and all of their pets.

Today is National Pets for Veterans Day. This day raises awareness about the mental health benefits animals provide veterans, as well as the benefits to rescued animals in need of a home. We want to thank Cook County Sheriff’s Police Officer Michael Brewer for his service, and share some photos of his support system, Domino and Ziggy, who are graduates of the Tails of Redemption program.

Rochelle, who was adopted in 2019 after being a member of our first graduating class, has been there for her owner during a difficult time:
“Rochelle has been such a blessing and lifesaver. This past year, I have been struggling with cancer and she has been there by my side throughout this entire time. She has been so good with me, especially during my surgery and chemo treatments. There were days where I could only tolerate Starbucks sandwiches and she would come with me and get a pupachino and brighten my day. I had no idea she would be such a lifesaver. She kept me company during the hardest times.”

We were so happy to help reunite a lost dog with her owner! About two weeks ago, our staff noticed a lost dog at the Sheriff’s Mental Health Transition Center, but she eluded our staff each time they tried to catch her. Our staff started providing food and water for her to gain her trust and, finally, after two weeks, they were able to catch her. They then searched lost dog postings online, where they found her owner. Alina returned home that night.

Home at Last! Alina, the Mix from #Chicago #IL is home safe and sound! Thank you to the heros at the Cook County Sheriff's office for taking care of Alina, feeding her for 2 weeks, and finding her post on Lost Dogs Illinois to get a hold of the family that was missing her! Missing 8/29/2021 Reunited 9/18/2021 Welcome home sweet girl!

"I got a call from the sheriffs office on 28th and Rockwell. Across from the couty jail. Where Alina was located hiding in the bushes where the also found a coyote with puppies, I was told Alina was attacked by them, four officers gave her food and water for two weeks until the where able to grab her... she's still traumatized poor Alina keeps shaking."

"She was hiding in a little jungle adjacent to the sheriffs office M.H.T.C officials there who I consider Alina's heroes found my phone number and contacted me last night around 7 pm. It took time and effort for them to trap her because according to what they said Alina kept running inside the high grass and bushes where they also found a coyote and puppies living there, what could be the reason for the female coyote to bite Alina at some point, but she's OK I just removed ticks from her skin, they also left food and water nearby for days, to save Alina before she was finally trapped."

We have been hard at work in TOR! We currently have 3 dogs: Cheese, Venus, and Summer. All three dogs have been spending time in the Division 9 yard for some exercise and playing. We have been teaching the handlers some of the different terms associated with our training. Now, they are able to use the proper terms for some of the training techniques that we employ in TOR.

A little laughter to lighten up our day
what is the costt and do you have mid size dogs also?
This is a magnificent program...and I couldn't be more grateful for the generous acts of diligence and kindness of these gentlemen. I'd enroll my Pika in for obedience training with them. God bless these men, their families and their futures.
