🔥🔥 Summer Fire Safety Tips 🔥🔥
Summer is a time for fun and outdoor activities, but it's also a season when fire risks increase. Follow these essential fire safety tips to keep your family and home safe during the warmer months! 🏡🌞

1. BBQ Safety 🍔🔥
Location: Always place your grill at least 10 feet away from your house, deck railings, and overhanging branches.
Supervision: Never leave your grill unattended. Keep a fire extinguisher or a bucket of sand nearby.
Cleanliness: Regularly clean your grill to prevent grease build-up, which can cause flare-ups.
2. Campfire Safety 🌲🔥
Site Selection: Choose a spot that’s at least 15 feet away from tents, shrubs, and trees.
Extinguishing: Completely extinguish your campfire before leaving. Douse it with water, stir the ashes, and douse it again.
Materials: Use only dry, seasoned wood. Avoid burning trash, which can release harmful chemicals.
3. Fireworks Safety 🎆🔥
Legal and Safe Use: Use fireworks only where legal and follow local regulations. Always light fireworks one at a time, and never attempt to relight a "dud."
Supervision: Never let children handle fireworks. Adults should always supervise.
Distance: Light fireworks outdoors in a clear area, away from houses, dry leaves, and flammable materials.
4. Wildfire Prevention 🚫🔥
Yard Maintenance: Clear away dead vegetation, leaves, and anything flammable from your yard.
Equipment Use: Be cautious when using equipment like lawnmowers or chainsaws. A spark can ignite dry grass.
Report: If you see an unattended fire or suspicious activity, report it to authorities immediately.
5. Heat Safety ☀️🔥
Hydration: Stay hydrated and take breaks if you're working outside.
Stay Cool: Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and a wide-brimmed hat.
Vehicle Safety: Never leave children or pets in a parked car. Temperatures inside a vehicle can rise rapidly, leading to heatstroke or death.
6. Emergency Preparedness 🚒🔥
Plan: Have a fire escape plan for your home and practice it with your family.
Kit: Keep a disaster kit ready, including water, non-perishable food, a flashlight, batteries, and a first-aid kit.
Alerts: Sign up for local emergency alerts to stay informed about fire conditions and warnings.
Stay safe and enjoy your summer with peace of mind! 🌞💧
These tips will help ensure a safe and enjoyable summer free from fire hazards. Share these with your friends and family to spread the knowledge and keep everyone protected! 🙌🔥🌲

The wintertime can be one of the most exciting times of the year, regardless of the weather. From holiday parties, last-minute get-togethers, countless shopping deals or being able to get out and head to your favorite seasonal destinations — owning a vehicle during the winter months can open up a new world of opportunities.

Owning a car, truck or SUV can allow you to go to and from the places you want to visit without having to deal with inclement weather, but there are still several things any driver needs to prepare for regarding this time of year apart from getting their vehicle ready for the winter weather. Keeping an active eye out for hazards such as ice, snow or other types of debris while driving is vital, as conditions like these cause nearly half a million accidents every winter.

While staying alert for these types of common winter driving hazards can help you stay safe, unexpected breakdowns and accidents can still occur, leaving you stuck on the side of the road. When this happens, having an updated winter emergency kit can help ensure you and your passengers are safe and secure no matter where you are or what the weather is like around you.

Portable electric heaters are high-wattage appliances that have the potential to ignite nearby combustible materials like curtains, beds, sofas, paper, clothing, and flammable liquids. If ignition results from a heater left on and unattended, a major fire could result. damaged.

If a plug connected to a space heater looks burnt and melted, it indicates that there may have been an electrical overload or a loose connection, which can be a fire hazard. It is important to stop using the heater immediately and have it inspected by a qualified professional to determine the cause of the damage.

Did you know?

About 25% of Christmas tree fires are the result of electrical problems or heat sources — including electric lights, fireplaces, radiators, and candles — kept too close to the tree. Additionally, about half of holiday decoration fires occur because decorations are placed too close to a heat source.

Don’t leave lights plugged in
Most households keep their Christmas trees in their living rooms. When everyone goes to bed, guess what’s sitting unattended and plugged into the wall? Your Christmas tree lights! Just as you would flip off the kitchen light before bed, do the same to the tree. Even an artificial tree can catch fire as a result of tree lights.

Christmas lights can get hot, and in some instances, start fires. Even the popular LED lights can overheat.

Avoid using extension cords
Extension cords are not intended for long-term use. Using an extension cord to light your Christmas tree is not safe. Overusing extension cords can overheat cords and cause increased fire risk.

Overloading extension cords or outlets is another danger to watch for. Instead of using one or more extension cords, it’s best to use a power strip. Power strips are designed to support multiple appliances like strings of lights or Christmas decorations.

Play it SAFE this holiday season!

October is Fire Prevention Month, it’s time to procure the necessary smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors and fire extinguishers. Residences should have a functioning – and tested twice annually – smoke detector on each floor and in each bedroom along with a fire extinguisher on each floor plus two additional ones: one in the kitchen and one in the garage. Safety experts also recommend a carbon monoxide detector in each bedroom as well as on each floor.

Hope no one was hurt, I wonder what happened here?

If the water from the faucet/fountain tastes nasty...
It could be the Lead Service Line need to be replaced😳

Have you noticed being in school there were water fountains in certain areas that was completely cut off, but others worked? (I'm sure this is why they water fountain near the bathrooms never worked)

High traces of lead (greater than 2.01ppb) found in water testing and after failing.. as a temporary fix is to just shut off the water and remove the dial to prevent lead exposure thru drinking water or make it specifically for handwashing. True but you're not in the green!
Continued testing at the open drinking sources is required! So for the most part because our kids were dehydrated lbs.

Boom COVID CPS schools got an upgrade and installed the bottle filler* stations which consist of NSF / ANSI 53 certified filters that reduce lead and contaminates versus removing and replacing that water line. Now with these easier filtration system you just have to change the filter every 6months.

Same thing for houses/apartments built before 2000. Have you completed a whole system flushing?
I know water bill.. but to ensure your water is less than 2.01ppb traces of lead is found in the drinking water and to minimize risk consider letting your water run. This is low to no cost and easy to implement but a temporary fix.

But what if you fail? Kerri Honeywood Fire Safety Consulting can assist you in constructing an effective mitigation plan at the immediate (low to no cost) / interim $$ / permanent level $$$.
We will also provide resources including an IEPA approved labs for lead testing in drinking water analysis plus more.
