Pullman is not only the home to Chicago’s first National Park Service site, Pullman National Historical Park and America’s first and only Black Labor History Museum, The National A. Philip Randolph Pullman Porter Museum. It has also always historically been a Factory town where thousands have found gainfully living wage employment.

To date, Pullman is still a Factory town. With 18 different Factories, it’s not hard to realize why so much attention is on this Nationally designated Historic District.

With that being said it’s important we stay engaged to make sure residents have the skill set and experience needed to be hired in these factories. Just living in the neighborhood isn’t enough. That’s why we’ve launched workforce development workshops and feeder programs to help prepare our residents. If you want to help see this process work for the entire community sign up to be apart of the Solution by helping coordinate, implement and enforce a “Community Benefits Agreement” for the entire 9th Ward the City as a whole can use as a Prototype.

On July 27th a Public Meeting took place at the Pullman National Monument, Visitor Center. Several community members, stakeholders and NPS staff gathered to give input on a future conceptual plan for the entire Monument district. A discussion about creating “Cultural trails” also took place, similar to the “Great Migration Pullman Porter Blues Trail” created between Bronzeville and Pullman by the Late Harold Lucas, Paula Robinson and Dr Lyn Hughes.

Here is some of the feedback about People, places and events of significance that have either taken place, are in place or are visions for the future.

Reminder for the upcoming May 5th and May 6th TSD May Community Meetings!

These are two identical virtual meetings that the CTA is hosting to get your feedback on the draft vision statements developed with guidance from the community for the areas around the new stations!

The project team will share what was learned from the community at the four station area meetings earlier this year and community members are encouraged to provide their feedback. The meetings will also include a planning exercise to brainstorm different types of potential future development near each station. The same information will be presented at both meetings, so please attend the one that works best for you.

For more information about the TSD Plan, please visit transitchicago.com/RLE/TSD. For questions about the RLE Project and/or the TSD Plan, please contact the project team at [email protected].

Registration is required to attend these meetings.
Please register at: transitchicago.com/RLE/engage
Attendees will receive information to join via Zoom or telephone.

If you require assistance to register, call us at 1-888-968-7282
at least three [3] days before the meeting you plan to attend.

You can also watch live on Facebook at facebook.com/CTARedExt.

The National A. Philip Randolph Pullman Porter Museum located in Pullman National Monument, Chicago’s 1st National Park Service Site, will celebrate Asa Philip Randolph’s 133rd Birthday with a “Growth Expansion Rollout Ceremony of the Museum Campus Development Project and the official launch of “The Community Economic Development Empowerment Project” (CEDEP 2020), a multi-phase innovative comprehensive Cultural Economic Development plan.

Friday, April 15, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. (CST)

“CEDEP 2020 will create a living, breathing, cultural, tourism, hospitality district titled ‘Randolph’s Way’ that will include Pullman Porters Row, where new businesses will locate, and it will be unlike any tourism district in the nation,” said Peterson. “ This entire effort is a remarkable opportunity to create real change in the lives of community residents, while simultaneously creating permanent jobs in a community where both the new businesses thrive, and the quality of life of community residents are changed. Most importantly, it will serve as a model for the nation, demonstrating what can be done to solve most of the problems in under-served communities — if we use the resources to work together.”

Last year we were blessed with the opportunity and privilege to partner with The City Of Chicago and Phalanx Family Services on the City’s Healthy Chicago Equity Zones (HCEZ)!

It was such an honor and blessing to lock arms and stand in solidarity with several Community Organizations from the Far South Side to Battle . This pandemic caught us all by surprise, but here at the Museum we are historically used to having to do MORE with LESS. This has armed us with the capacity and experience to do this work.

Please take a look at a brief recap of a few of our most recent events from September to December as we move forward this year with doing what we do best…. SERVING OUR COMMUNITY!

Happy New Year ALL! Welcome to 2022!
