A couple weeks ago we had the pleasure and honor of standing in Solidarity as a partner with the “Coalition for Small Businesses” as we collectively supported the coalitions main goal...
“To protect historically underserved during the coronavirus pandemic and provide funds expeditiously to the most vulnerable businesses." We support the coalitions request for the U.S. Small Business Administration and the U.S. Department of Treasury to: (1) Comply with the PPP and EIDL Grant’s intended purpose of Congress. (2) Honor the Sense of the Senate in H.R. 748. (3) Remove the lender’s discretion, ensure loans are guaranteed, and funds are disbursed. (4) Honor the applicant’s Good Faith Certification in place of IRS forms 940, 941, 1096, or 1099.

“Randolph’s Way” is the foundation of the Community Economic Development Empowerment Project. It is the living, breathing, embodiment of “Cultural Economic Development”. The epicenter for “urban culturalism” and tourism on the far south side! #StayTuned as we bring the vision to life one project at a time. #LetsBuild #CEDEP20 #HistoryInTheMaking #TheMovementMovesOn
The Brotherhood Of Sleeping Car Porters offered the World a template for Resilience. The Environmental Social Governance they used in order to push through the hard times and circumstances of working as #PullmanPorters gave a model for all to use to push through to self inflicted greatness! Let’s talk about #CulturalEconomicDevelopment:
“Cultural Economic Development for the Black community”. This means the time has come for the African American community to benefit from Tourism. This was predicted by Ron Brown, former US Secretary of Commerce at the White House Conference on Travel & Tourism in 1995! He is now among the ancestors. It was 25 years in the making, but his vision lives on and is here! Things that are understood need not be explained…

Let's Talk about #CulturalEconomicDevelopment:
There is no conventional or standard definition for “cultural economic development”. However, it is considered — Economic development activity, that emphasizes arts and cultural activity in the planning and implementation of a project.
If you can get past the conversation about the development of downtown Chicago and the north shore, you will see exactly what it means:
Navy Pier, Millennium Park, River Walk, starting to see it. There are people on the south side who have; take a look at what Theaster Gates is doing!
There is absolutely no reason why the African American community across the city of Chicago and this nation, should not be seizing those opportunities — using Pullman as an example.
There is a lot of conversation about the development in Pullman for example, but most of that development is industrial. The residual effect has and does benefit census tract 5003 (population is statistically 43% white, 31% black, 19% hispanic, 6% two races, 1% Asian). — But the population that needs resources most, census tract 5002, (population is 96% Black, 1% white, 2% two races, 1% hispanic) has not yet shared in many of those benefits.
A recent joint project with DePaul University’s GIS mapping class in the Geography department created a heat map that will provide you with a statistical demonstration of exactly what we mean. It will also enable you to see how the community could benefit from cultural, economic development activity.
Stay tuned for a community workshop in collaboration with the National A. Philip Randolph Pullman Porter Museum coming soon that will break down the entire detailed study.
Today our David Peterson Jr. our Founder & testified at the city council meeting.
He presented a unique innovative project that could not only facilitate the acquisition and adaptive reuse of the vacant Pullman Firehouse, but also make the new anticipated home of the National A. Philip Randolph Pullman Porter Museum a reality by creating what we describe as a “Culture Factory”!
What was presented can only be described as a stroke of genius. The concept of adaptive reuse of a vacant firehouse can be replicated in 15 other wards, to create similar community cultural facilities in underserved communities across the City of Chicago.
Mayor Emanuel recently bosted about the Fifty-Eight Million Visitors coming to Illinois last year. This idea could not only bring Cultural Economic Development (Tourism) and cultural inspiration to each community, but presents a way to employ people in the respective communities with jobs that will remain in the community after the development is completed!
More important, this is the kind of project that will enable low-income community residents to enter into and take advantage of some of the benefits of the Billion Dollar growth industry of Tourism.

9th Ward Candidate Essie Hall gave the crowd a trip down memory lane. As a lifetime resident of the 9th Ward she has a good idea of what the Ward used to look like and a vision for what it can look like.
Our goal is to highlight all the great ideas that every Candidate has so that whoever wins can have a clear picture of what the collective needs and wants. We are optimistic a better community is ahead of us. We are also dedicated to providing viable information that will help the process.

For anyone who was not able to make it to the 9th Ward Candidate Forum last week here is another recap of a question asked by a concerned community member about Economic Development to 4 of the 6 candidates on the ballot.
We are now 37 days out from a pivotal point in the 9th Ward as we prepare to take on a major paradigm shift with the Chicago 2020 Plan. It is our goal as a non partisan, non political Community Development Corporation to continue to serve as a medium between residents in the community and business development by working to produce a “Community Benefits Agreement” that will benefit the entire Ward. #TheMovementMovesOn #HistoryInTheMaking #BuildingANewChicago #CreatingANewPromise #TheNew9thWard #CulturalEconomicDevelopment #CommunityEconomicDevelopmentPowerProject #CEDPP #CED #CBA #QualityOpportunityZones

One of the most electrifying moments of the Forum was hearing a lifetime community resident and activist from People for Community Recovery speak about a topic we are very passionate about. #EnvironmentalJustice.
We’re a proud collaborator of the National A. Philip Randolph Pullman Porter Museum’s #GreenInitiatives Program division [ https://aprpullmanportermuseum.org/greeninitiativeprogramdivision/ ] that hosts free community and mobile workshops on environmental education. It is our goal and duty to enlighten community members as well as give them a platform to voice their concerns. We take great pride in exposing the initiatives taking place in the Calumet Collaborative and South Lake Front region and look forward to continuing to make issues like these high priorities for the City and state.

The numbers from 2018 are in and Tourism in Chicago has made yet ANOTHER increase! 58,000,000 visitors came to Chicago which is up 4% from 2017! That’s 19,000,000 more visitors than 2011 which has created 22,000 tourism related jobs. It is our goal and duty to make sure our communities know EXACTLY how to take part in the emerging Tourism and Hospitality industry in the City Of Chicago, particularly on the far south side. We do this by introducing and educating residents on the concept of #CulturalEconomicDevelopment which falls under the broader umbrella of #International #Tourism. As you can see the City of a Chicago has become an epicenter for Tourism so how will you prepare?
