Pullman is not only the home to Chicago’s first National Park Service site, Pullman National Monument, National Park Service and America’s first and only Black Labor History Museum, The National A. Philip Randolph Pullman Porter Museum. It has also always historically been a Factory town where thousands have found gainfully living wage employment.

To date, Pullman is still a Factory town. With 18 different Factories, it’s not hard to realize why so much attention is on this Nationally designated Historic District.

1. Walmart
2. Gotham Greens
3. Pullman Innovations
4. Kellogs
5. Pullman Sugar
6. Imperial Zinc Corp
7. Whole Foods Market; Midwest Distribution
8. Lost Illinois Manufacturing
9. Method Products
10. Amazon.com Distribution Center
11. Chicago Department Of Streets and Sanitation; Bureau of Sanitation
12. ServiceMaster Restore
13. Ferrara Candy Shop
14. Atlas Bleachers
15. The University of Chicago Press
16. Good Foods
17. Dutch Farms
18. DaBecca Foods

With that being said it’s important we stay engaged to make sure residents have the skill set and experience needed to be hired in these factories. Just living in the neighborhood isn’t enough. That’s why we’ve launched workforce development workshops and feeder programs to help prepare our residents. If you want to help see this process work for the entire community sign up to be apart of the Solution by helping coordinate, implement and enforce a “Community Benefits Agreement” for the entire 9th Ward the City as a whole can use as a Prototype.

“Equality is the heart and essence of democracy, freedom, and justice; equality of opportunity in industry, in labor unions, schools and colleges, government, politics, and before the law. There must be no dual standards of justice, no dual rights, privileges, duties, or responsibilities of citizenship. No dual forms of freedom.” - A. Philip Randolph

Reminder for the upcoming May 5th and May 6th TSD May Community Meetings!

These are two identical virtual meetings that the CTA is hosting to get your feedback on the draft vision statements developed with guidance from the community for the areas around the new stations!

The project team will share what was learned from the community at the four station area meetings earlier this year and community members are encouraged to provide their feedback. The meetings will also include a planning exercise to brainstorm different types of potential future development near each station. The same information will be presented at both meetings, so please attend the one that works best for you.

For more information about the TSD Plan, please visit transitchicago.com/RLE/TSD. For questions about the RLE Project and/or the TSD Plan, please contact the project team at [email protected].

Registration is required to attend these meetings.
Please register at: transitchicago.com/RLE/engage
Attendees will receive information to join via Zoom or telephone.
