👋 High five! It’s ! Today we’re motivated by our incredible Chicago Marathon runners who 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 $𝟳𝟱,𝟬𝟬𝟬 this year! Their hard work, sweat, and hustle is helping to provide food, free mental health counseling, and critical social services to Chicagoans. Thank you, runners! 🙌

We’re delighted that leaders from the McCormick Foundation volunteered Friday at El Mercadito, our West Side pantry. Their team included McCormick’s President and CEO Tim Knight, Director of Partnerships Sonia Mathew, Director of Education Partnerships Bryan Stokes, Grants Manager Ava Schneider, Director of Community Capital Portfolio Jose Rodriguez, and Director of the Englewood Portfolio Mirlene Dossous. They were joined by our CEO Kellie O'Connell, Chief Development Officer Drew Moran, Director of Institutional Partnerships Kayla Carter, and Senior Bilingual Pantry Coordinator Omar Román.

Román shared, “It was a busy day – it was our kickoff for giving out holiday meats, hams, and turkeys. The McCormick Foundation was extremely helpful and helped us distribute holiday meats and groceries to around 115 families.”

We love it when our foundation partners volunteer at El Mercadito! They can see first-hand the impact of our innovative partnership with La Casa Norte. Together, we’re providing a basic human right – nutritious food to Chicago neighbors in need.

🙌 Happy ! We had an absolute blast in September with our friends at the Nourishing Hope Gala. Thanks to the generous support of our guests, volunteers, and sponsors, we raised a 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗱-𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 $𝟭.𝟭 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 for Nourishing Hope! These funds are directly supporting our food programs, free mental health counseling, and social services.

As October ends and Breast Cancer Awareness Month comes to a close, we wanted to share a story from our Health & Hope program founders. Jennie Filicky Hull serves as our Chief Program Officer and is a breast cancer survivor of seven years. Aisha Achesah, MPH started the program in 2019 to help nourish oncology patients.

Thank you to everyone who participated in our Pumpkin Giveaway and Canned Food Drive at Lincoln Central Association’s Howler at Bauler! We collected over 130 canned goods and other non-perishable food items for Nourishing Hope. We loved seeing the community come together to help others in need while celebrating Halloween!

📣 🙌 We're giving a HUGE shout-out to for completing their race to the finish line at Sunday's Bank of America Chicago Marathon!

This dedicated group of 35 runners collectively 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 $𝟲𝟯,𝟬𝟬𝟬 so far for Nourishing Hope. Thanks to their amazing support, we are 26.2 miles closer to a hunger-free Chicago!

Today on , we’d like to recognize and honor the indigenous tribes of Chicagoland: the Anishinaabe, or The Council of the Three Fires – which includes the Ojibwe, Odawa and Potawatomi Nations – as well as the Miami, Ho-Chunk, Menominee, Sac, Fox, Peoria, Kickapoo, Kaskaskia, Wea, Mascouten and Illinois Nations, among others.

We’re grateful for the contributions, culture, and rich histories of these Indigenous communities.

Elizabeth Buchanan, 39, is president of North America business for global information services firm NielsenIQ, working with some of the world’s largest companies. She is also a member of the Economic Club of Chicago, was a 2022 Leadership Greater Chicago Signature Fellow and was named a 2023 Chicago Crain’s Business Notable Woman in STEM.

Eric White, 39, is a partner at law firm Winston & Strawn. He was recently named to Lawdragon’s 2025 list of 500 Leading Litigators in America, was recognized as one of the National LGBTQ+ Bar Association’s 2022 '40 Best LGBTQ+ Lawyers Under 40' and was named in the National Bar Association’s 2022 list of 40 Under 40: Nation’s Best Advocates.
