Tomorrow is the annual Walk Through Time! Tour several of the existing 19th century houses, plus a historic restaurant! Plus appetizers, drinks available, and a silent auction.

This week’s Photo Friday shows the carpet on the front stairs, an exact reproduction of the original “Lily” carpet installed here in 1887. The pattern was designed by William Morris in 1875 and was one of his most popular carpet designs. Made of wool, the Wilton carpet was produced on a specially designed loom in 27-inch wide strips which were then sewn together to create the desired finished size.

A Walk Through Time, our annual house tour of the Prairie Avenue Historic District on Sunday, August 30, includes the beautifully preserved interior of the Renaissance Revival-style house shown here, designed by architects Thomas & Rapp in 1891. It was built for Dr. Charles Purdy, house physician for the Auditorium Hotel. Purchase tickets online at https://www.glessnerhouse.org/events/a-walk-through-time.
