This week, State Representative Lindsey LaPointe and I visited Portage Park Elementary. We had the opportunity to listen to parents and eighth graders and learn what issues are the most important to them. Then, at Taft High School we spoke with the AP Gov students about what it means to be a legislator.
Thank you to the students, parents, and educators for these opportunities and for your insight!
Government should never be able to stand in the way of marrying the person you love. That’s why I fought for marriage equality for the state of Illinois. A decade later, I am pleased to see that the federal government will ensure protections for marriage regardless of s*x, gender, race, ethnicity, or national origin.

In Illinois, thousands of adults are living with diabetes – and they deserve timely and affordable access to medication. The passing of historic legislation in 2020 to cap out-of-pocket insulin costs was the first step to making this medication more accessible. If you know anyone struggling to afford insulin, visit the American Diabetes Association website www.insulinhelp.org for help.
