The St. Francis community grew in the best way possible when Sam & Elizabeth welcomed Francis Rocco into the world last Monday.

Sentimental bunch that we are, it reminded us of the first time the community expanded like that—way back in 2007 when then-Workers Ross & Andrea brought their own bundle of joy home.

“Christ remains crucified in the poor and homeless of Skid Row, as well as the poor and homeless throughout the world…In this vein, I invite you to practice resurrection through resistance.”

Last night, De Paul University honored Jeff Dietrich and the LA Catholic Worker with the Berrigan-McAllister Award for their resistance, work, and witness. The St. Francis Community was very glad to be part of the celebration.

Plato said, “poetry is nearer to vital truth than history.” In this spirit, you are warmly invited to St. Francis House on Thursday, February 15 at 7 pm for a poetry hour. If there is a poem (or song, or cinematic dialogue) about love, justice, spirituality or life (so basically anything) that has ever compelled you, you are warmly encouraged to bring it, perform a reading, and briefly (2-3 minutes) share how the poem speaks to you. We intend to encounter the beauty of art and each other through these readings and resonances.

Light refreshments will be served and no poem required, just yourself!

Hello friends,
These past few months, probably few situations have captured our gazes like what is happening in Gaza. We would like to have an open round table discussion about the ongoing genocide, here at St Francis House on Thursday, January 18 at 6:00pm. Let’s get together to share our views and feelings. All are welcome.
Warmest regards,
The St Francis House community
