Thank you, Marc Kaplan and Kathy Powers, of Northside Action For Justice, and Brenda Dunkins, resident at Northpoint Apartments, 7717 N. Paulina Street, for interviewing with me at WZRD Chicago 88.3 FM, and describing:
the widespread management neglect at Northpoint Apartments, before 2019 and from 2019 till the present, after Related Midwest bought Northpoint Apartments in 2019,
how Northpoint Apartments is a complex with mostly subsidized apartments,
the difference between subsidized housing and Section 8 voucher housing,
how the City of Chicago Department of Buildings does not inspect violations, including no heat, no baseboards, rodent and bedbug infestations,
how the Building Department investigated one apartment after Lurie's Children Hospital reported a case of an infant with lead poisoning,
how Aldermwoman Maria Hadden (49th Ward) and State Representative Kelly Cassidy (14th District) has worked with residents since 2019 and how State Senator Mike Simmons has worked with residents since 2021 to address the management neglect and apartment conditions,
how Northside Action For Justice and the residents have not yet been able to get a meeting with the Illinois Housing Development Authority, which is the managing agency of Northpoint Apartments and is in charge of disbursing the subsidies for the units,
the billions of Tax Increment Financing (TIF) funding received by Northpoint Apartments, and more.
