US Dept.

Brief History-
Cornerstone began as a small group effort in 1989, with a few people working to meet the needs of their neighbors. At that time, women with children were becoming the new faces of homelessness in America. CCO felt drawn to meet this need to serve and shelter women with children. Over the following 20 years our programs have expanded to serve around 500 men, women, and children daily

. As a result, hundreds of singles and families are given an opportunity to reclaim their lives from the devastating effects of poverty and homelessness. Loss of job, lack of resources, health problems, and addictions are some of the causes of homelessness for our residents. But no matter their background or situation, all of our residents have come to Cornerstone seeking help. Our goal is to meet them where they are at and help them begin building a new life, one step at a time. of Housing and Urban Development, CSBG, Chicago Dept. of Family Support Services,
Illinois State Board of Education,
and our wonderful donors.

On helped pack Welcome Bags in preparation for our men's move to the Haven. We've got them all set up in the rooms and ready to go! We're so excited for our guys to get to move into this incredible facility.

We had extra treat bags donated by the incredible It Takes A Village Family of Schools and we added them to the Welcome Bags.

We don't just want the bare minimum for our shelter guests. We pay attention to the little things because we know that when you're experiencing homelessness, the little things matter. Thank you to our supporters who make that possible!

TOMORROW! is hosting another plarn party! Bring your plastic bags (or just yourselves) and enjoy good company, movies and snacks while making mats. These mats will be used by people at homeless encampments to stay dry and comfortable while sleeping.

Bring a friend! No need for skill! 🧶

Every mile has a purpose. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️
Our Team CCO runners are in training for the 2026 Bank of America Chicago Marathon, putting in the miles now as they prepare for race day on October 11.

But they’re running for more than a finish line.

They’re running to support the individuals and families who come to Cornerstone Community Outreach looking for shelter, stability, care, and hope on their way home.

For Team CCO, every $26 raised helps provide a night of shelter for someone experiencing homelessness.

As our runners take on the long runs, early mornings, tired legs, and many miles ahead, you can be part of their journey.

Meet our runners, cheer them on, and support their journey turning their miles into nights of shelter.

Care looks like showing up.

At Cornerstone Community Outreach, neighbors, volunteers, donors, and partners all have a role in building a stronger community.

Every meal prepared, every need met, and every conversation held with dignity matters.

Thank you for helping make this work possible.

It was "a day filled with hope, opportunity, and new beginnings."

Cornerstone clients participated in an Accelerated Moving Event (AME) organized by All Chicago. Naomi Women's program head, Kecya Thurman, shares about the event below.

"Representatives from Sarah's Circle and Volunteers of America Illinois (VOA Illinois) were onsite to meet individually with participants and begin building relationships with those who were matched for housing services. Throughout the day, women had the opportunity to discuss their housing needs, ask questions, and learn more about the support they will receive during their transition.

We are proud to share that 18 women were successfully matched to housing services during the event.
