Our Story
MetroSquash’s ultimate goal is to help our students become healthy adults with economic and social stability. Since our founding in 2005, we have worked to help our students succeed both on and off the court. Our proven model continues to strengthen as the 2019-2020 school year brings our fourth class of college graduates. This past year we served over 400 students.
MetroSquash serves students from 5th grade through college graduation. Student dedicate a minimum of 10 hours per week to the program and their time is equally divided between academic support and the sport of squash.

Our MetroSquash Program was able to spend the day at Topgolf this past weekend thanks to funds from The Akesh Experience! For most of the Littles, this was their first time getting the chance to swing a golf club, and they can't wait to go back. A new match was also able to meet for the first time in-person making this event extra special. To learn more about The Akesh Experience and how to contribute, head to bbbschgo.org/akesh. Thank you to the Akesh Experience donors for continuing to make new amazing memories for our matches!
Great to see the Dunlop Squash Chuck-A-Ball Challenge in full swing at the University Club of Chicago 🙌

Do you have any squash courts inside your actual S Cottage Grove venue? If so, how many please? Thanks!
Chicago's MetroSquash is the fifth facility to be accredited as an official US Squash Community Affiliate. Metrosquash joins as the second Regional level Community Affiliate – the highest tier – as more facilities prioritize broader access to squash with the support and encouragement of US Squash.
🗣 "We’ve always been about creating access to the game and using it as a vehicle to expand opportunity. Being a part of the Community Affiliate Network and working with US Squash allows us to amplify everything we do. We want to increase access to allow more people from the community to interact with us at the center. That’s going to support our core mission, which is to serve Chicago youth. The more the community knows about us, and the more the community feels welcome in our facilities, that’s going to make so many more youth want to come and have a life-changing experience through MetroSquash programming and the sport of squash.”-David Kay, MetroSquash CEO

Phenomenal Staff Highlights! Over the summer, Kirina and Marnee led 6 weeks of virtual summer programming for 36 students. Though online, students received enrichment kits that included their squash racquets, yoga mats, resistance bands, notebooks, art supplies, STEM supplies, and books. Each of the weeks was themed and allowed the students to connect with their MetroSquash teammates while learning something new. Kirina and Marnee also remained committed to supporting our students' families by connecting with them weekly to check-in on their wellness and the need for support! #ThisIsAfterschool
Over the past month, we’ve received some fantastic submissions for our Academic Contest, #SEASpeaks. We challenged students across the network to create a zine about life in quarantine, what has been hard, what has brought joy, what they’ve learned, and what they look forward to doing when this period ends.
We’re excited to announce our winners of the challenge and share their submissions!
First up is our third place winner Yolanda, a seventh grader from MetroSquash. Congratulations, Yolanda!
Our second and first place zines will be shared later this week. Stay tuned.

Chicagoland lost a local legend.
This month, SEA launched a new academic challenge, #SEASpeaks. Now through May 31st, we are accepting student submissions for May's challenge to create your own zine (all students) or write a graduation speech for the Class of 2020 (HS seniors only). Shout out to MetroSquash who worked on their zines together. We are excited to see the creative submissions you come up with!!
It's time for another #SquashingTheCurveChallenge! This week, we have MetroSquash's Coach Tron demonstrating our plank with a toss challenge. Grab a squash ball or any object you have handy, get in a high plank position, and toss the ball back and forth.
The member program with the highest number of participants will receive a prize from SEA, and the participant with the highest number of tosses will get a special shoutout on social media! Can you beat Tron's 49 tosses?
Remember to send us your video submissions in a direct message with your first name and your member program by Monday, May 25th at midnight.
