How amazing is it that a Midwest ranch and a Chicago farmers' market believe that high quality foods should be available to everyone no matter the cost just like we do? Last week, Finn’s Steak and Eggs Ranch delivered an order of free-range, grass-fed ground beef to us for our clients after we met with them at Green City Market. We cannot thank them enough for the work they do and for being fantastic partners and role models for a sustainable food system.

Our building purchase is aligned with Common Pantry’s strategic goals and made possible by the state of Illinois. We’re grateful to our local elected officials--Sara Feigenholtz, State Senator, Ann M. Williams - State Representative, Alderman Matt Martin - 47th Ward and to IFF for helping make this happen. It’s also a testament to the power of our volunteers who logged 5,740 hours helping feed 750 families per month last year - and our donors, who make it all happen. Thank you!

As Chicago’s longest continually-operating #foodpantry, we’re excited to announce that for the first time we’ll have our own building. Lots of work ahead for us to make 3900 N. Lincoln Ave. our new home, but we remain committed to providing emergency food and social services to people in our #northcenterchicago community.

Thank you to Sara Feigenholtz, State Senator, Ann M. Williams - State Representative, Alderman Matt Martin - 47th Ward, Andrew Scott, Tim Rasmussen and IFF for helping make this happen. Our new location is just 3 blocks from our current location. Neighbor note: C'est Bien Thai is staying for now. Wasabi, which belonged to the former building owner, is no longer open.

Host your own lemonade stand to raise money for the Common Pantry! Visit www.commonpantry.org starting in mid-May to register your stand and to learn how to host safely, collect money, and more. In 2019, children raised over $3000 for the Pantry by selling lemonade — this allowed us to launch a composting program! Funds raised will allow us to expand our efforts to “green" the pantry.

Dear Margaret - Chicago, IL | Tock

Someday, friends.

A love letter to Midwestern ingredients, written in elevated and honest French-Canadian cuisine. Rooted in classic technique. Relying on the passion and ingenuity of a year-round preservationist’s kitchen and larder. Reminiscent of that welcoming feeling at a grandmother’s table.

THANK YOU to a group of Whitney M. Young Magnet High School students who coordinated a food drive for the Common Pantry! For a school project around inequities in the food supply, they chose to learn about the Pantry and our efforts to fight food insecurity. This is a great example of what we’re aiming for with Common Kids — creating a lifecycle where kids of any age can contribute and, when they are old enough, they can initiate things on their own!

One of the students started volunteering with us back when she attended Rogers Park Montessori School (RPMS) in the days before there was a formal #CommonKids program.

RPMS is also getting involved in community action:
—RPMS preschoolers are learning how to be good neighbors. They are making a craft and collecting Pepperidge Farm cookies that will go to our homebound clients.
— RPMS 1-3rd graders did a read-a-thon, collecting nearly $1000 in pledges for the Pantry.
— RPMS 4th-6th graders are creating activity books to help our homebound clients remain cognitively sharp through crossword puzzles, coloring pages, Sudoku, and more.
— RPMS middle schoolers are doing a food drive.

The City of Chicago recently announced all CPS families will receive P-EBT cards in the mail in March, which will be loaded with money meant to offset the costs of school-provided meals for children. These cards can be reloaded by the government with funds in the future and can be used like a debit card to purchase food at any grocery store that accepts Link cards.

We have been asked by many of our supporters if they can forward these resources to Common Pantry. If you’d like to donate any portion of these funds to Common Pantry for our neighbors in need, we ask that you use your P-EBT cards for purchasing groceries for your own family and then make a financial contribution on our website here. We are limited in space for storing food and can make our dollar go further in terms of purchasing food.

For every $1 donated, we can provide four meals. Learn more about who we serve and our programming www.commonpantry.org
