🇹🇼🇺🇸 Taiwan and the U.S. Join Hands to Deepen Ties in the American Midwest! Director General Yen-Feng Lei Delivers Remarks at the MLC Executive Committee Meeting

🔹 The 80th Annual Meeting of the Midwestern Legislative Conference (MLC) kicked off on August 30 in St. Paul, Minnesota! Director General Yen-Feng Lei met with MLC Chair and Minnesota State Senator Mary Kunesh and was invited to address more than 50 legislative leaders from the United States and Canada at the MLC Executive Committee Meeting.

🔹 Director General Lei highlighted the democratic values shared by Taiwan and the United States, as well as the highly complementary nature of their economic and trade relationship. In 2025, Taiwan rose to become the fourth-largest U.S. trading partner. Taiwan has also announced more than US$250 billion in investments in U.S. supply chains, further strengthening cooperation in AI, semiconductors, drones, and critical minerals.

🔹 Taiwan is also an important agricultural partner of the American Midwest. Last year, a Taiwanese agricultural trade mission signed letters of intent to purchase US$10 billion worth of U.S. agricultural products.

🔹 Director General Lei expressed appreciation for the steadfast support for Taiwan from governments at all levels across the United States and from the MLC. He also condemned China’s distortion of UN General Assembly Resolution 2758 and its disruption of undersea cables.

🤝 As the United States celebrates its 250th anniversary and Taiwan marks 30 years of direct presidential elections, Taiwan and the United States will continue building on our shared values to create a safer, more prosperous, and more resilient future together!

🎬🇹🇼🇺🇸 “A Chip Odyssey” Takes Minnesota by Storm! A packed crowd of 500 came together to witness the resilience and strength of Taiwan’s semiconductor industry and the Taiwan–U.S. high-tech partnership! 👏

On August 29, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago (TECO-Chicago), in partnership with the Taiwan Online Library in Minnesota, hosted a screening of A Chip Odyssey: The Century-Long Bet followed by an economic and technology forum. The event drew an enthusiastic crowd of approximately 500 guests from mainstream American and Taiwanese American communities! This marked TECO-Chicago’s sixth “A Chip Odyssey” screening and economic and technology forum in the U.S. Midwest this year! 🎉

🔹 Minnesota State Representative Duane Quam shared his firsthand experience in the semiconductor industry, praising Taiwan’s leadership and forward-looking vision. U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar also sent a special congratulatory letter in recognition of the occasion.

🔹 Scholars and experts from the University of Minnesota, Macalester College, Carleton College, and other institutions joined the forum for an engaging discussion on semiconductors, technological innovation, and supply chain cooperation.

🎬 A Chip Odyssey Makes Its UIUC Debut! 🇹🇼🇺🇸

🔹 On August 27, TECO in Chicago partnered with the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC)—home to one of America’s leading engineering programs—to bring A Chip Odyssey to campus for the first time. Nearly 500 guests, including leaders from government, industry, and academia, as well as faculty and students, joined the screening and a discussion on trade, technology, and innovation.

🔹 This was TECO Chicago’s fifth screening of A Chip Odyssey across the U.S. Midwest this year, building greater momentum for the Taiwan–U.S. high-tech partnership.

🔹 Illinois State Senator Paul Faraci, University of Illinois System and UIUC leaders, deans, and faculty joined the event. A lively post-screening panel explored semiconductors, technological innovation, and industry–academia collaboration.

🔹 Director General Yen-Feng Lei highlighted how A Chip Odyssey tells the remarkable story of Taiwan’s rise as a global semiconductor powerhouse—and how that journey reflects the deep, complementary, and mutually beneficial partnership between Taiwan and the United States. Together, Taiwan and the U.S. can build an even stronger future through technology, trade, and academic collaboration.

🔬 Earlier in the day, Director General Lei visited UIUC’s Nick Holonyak Jr. Micro and Nanotechnology Laboratory and joined Matt Winters, Director of the Center for East Asian and Pacific Studies, and more than a dozen UIUC professors for a closed-door roundtable on Taiwan–U.S. trade, technology, security, and international development cooperation.

Celebrating Young Talents and Taiwan–U.S. Academic Exchange!

駐芝加哥辦事處類總領事延峰偕教育組朱組長旭華等同仁今（8月28）日應邀出席芝加哥大學與國立臺灣大學、國立成功大學與國立清華大學39名台灣交換學生期末成果海報展，與芝大分子工程學院院長Stuart Rowan、芝大金政教授（我中研院院士）及計劃主持人芝大徐伯均教授等一同聆聽學生分享海外交換期間的學習心得與觀察。

類總領事致詞中肯定學生勇於探索世界，並期盼大家將學習心得帶回臺灣，推動臺美之間的互動與認識。

🎓🌎 Celebrating Learning, Discovery, and Taiwan–U.S. Connections!

Director General Yen-Feng Lei of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Chicago, joined by Education Division Director Jennifer Chu and colleagues, was delighted to attend the final poster presentation today (August 28) in the University of Chicago featuring 39 exchange students from National Taiwan University (NTU), National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), and National Tsing Hua University (NTHU).

Together with Stuart Rowan, Dean of the Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering at the University of Chicago; Professor Cheng Chin, an Taiwan Academician of Academia Sinica; and Professor Po-Chun Hsu, the program’s principal organizer, Director General Lei enjoyed hearing the students share their academic experiences, observations, and reflections from their time in Chicago. 📚✨

In his remarks, Director General Lei applauded the students for stepping beyond their comfort zones and embracing the opportunity to explore, learn, and experience the world. He encouraged them to bring the knowledge, experiences, and new perspectives they gained in Chicago back to Taiwan—and to become bridges that foster even stronger exchanges, connections, and mutual understanding between Taiwan and the United States. 🇹🇼🤝🇺🇸

🇹🇼🤝🇺🇸 訪台有感，威斯康辛州財務長李博（John Leiber）力挺威州在台設處、深化台威合作！

威斯康辛州財務長李博今年7月隨伊利諾州副州長侯炳文（Grace Hou）率領的美國中西部政治領袖團訪台，親身了解台灣在半導體、AI、先進製造、醫療及農業等領域的發展。

返美後，李博特別在威州重要政經媒體 WisPolitics 投書分享訪台心得。他指出，台灣已是美國第4大貿易夥伴，與威州在農業、製造業及科技產業高度互補，更公開支持威州政府在台灣設立貿易辦事處，協助雙方企業拓展投資與商機。

🇹🇼🤝🇺🇸A call for stronger Taiwan–Wisconsin ties from Wisconsin State Treasurer!

Wisconsin State Treasurer John Leiber visited Taiwan in July as part of a Midwest political leaders delegation led by Illinois Lieutenant Governor Grace Hou, gaining a firsthand look at Taiwan’s strengths in semiconductors, AI, advanced manufacturing, and more.

After returning to Wisconsin, Treasurer Leiber shared his impressions in an op-ed published by WisPolitics. He highlighted Taiwan’s position as the 4th-largest U.S. trading partner, the strong complementarity between Taiwan and Wisconsin in agriculture, manufacturing, and technology, and called for Wisconsin to establish a trade office in Taiwan to create more opportunities for businesses on both sides.

We’re glad to see a visit to Taiwan turning into concrete ideas for deeper cooperation—and we look forward to welcoming more friends from Wisconsin and across the Midwest to Taiwan! 🇹🇼❤️🇺🇸
