Reminder, effective today you cannot hold your cell phone while driving. Whether you are texting, changing music, inputting addresses for directions.

If caught, there is a $100 fine and it’s reported as a moving violation. The violation is reported to insurance and can result in higher premiums. There is a 3 strike clause that can result in a loss of license.

"Life Lessons," hosted by the DuSable Museum, with President, Perri Irmer at the helm who graciously opened the doors of this great institution that was granted as a Smithsonian Institute Affiliate this year and the Illinois African American Family Commission, with the New Chairman, Wendell Mosby and Director, Michael Holmes.

Our distinguished panel of speakers included: Cook County Bar Association President, Natalie L. Howse who is running the oldest African American Bar Association in the country. The famed Educator, Political Consultant/Activist, Professor Robert Starks, and Lawyer, Policy Advocate and Executive Director of Chicago Social Change Todd Belcore with our Moderator and media social change power broker, Carl West.

There are laws, policies and legislation being passed by our hardworking lawyers, information being shared by our educators with the present and future generations and fights still being fought with the Voters Rights Act of 1965. It's time to R.U.N. "Rise Up Now!"

Great turn out today at Christ the King Jesuit College Preparatory which was the host for Commissioner Boykin's The State of Black Males in Illinois. Some of the many speakers were, Cook County Commissioner, Richard Boykin, Interim VP of Chicago State University, Cecil Lucy, Networking/Business Entrepreneur, Malcolm Crawford, a young man igniting with passion a movement of faith, Pastor Theodore Matthews of Empowerment Church, Illinois African American Family Commission, Director Michael Holmes, Visionary leader, Pastor Albert D. Tyson and many more!

There were many disparities discussed of the black male: education, joblessness, homelessness, imprisonment, economics/lack of capital, exposure, etc. The consensus however, was that a paradigm shift must take place. We must create a strategic plan, implement and execute; if we do not, we will remain at a stand still.

Through the candid conversations, many felt it was just a place to air their grievance and nothing much else. What were the take aways, what are the next steps?

Mr. Lucy will make available Chicago State University as the next meeting place in which action steps and a plan will be implemented to aid in moving the black male forward. Please continue to visit our page for more information.

It is extremely important to have community involvement. Your voice has power when present, but if absent, we must then deal with the consequences.
