One of UCAN's core values challenges individuals to become advocates for justice. In that spirit, UCAN celebrates Juneteenth as the nation commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans, specifically the day in 1865 when Union troops announced in Galveston, Texas, that all enslaved people were free. Another of our core values speaks to honoring the "intrinsic value of all people" and that inclusiveness is a strength, which we achieve when everyone is free and free will is the order of the day. Happy Juneteenth Chicago!
