History of Racial Injustice: De-Romanticizing American Slavery

The effort to reduce American slavery to a benign, romantic institution is a deeply rooted tradition. After the Civil War, Southern whites used power reacquired through violence and discrimination to construct a false narrative about slavery.

of Abomey (Benin).

Leader of the Dahomey Amazons, she led an army of 6,000 women against the Egba fortress of Abeokuta. Because the Amazons were armed with spears, bows and swords while the Egba had European cannons only about 1,200 survived the extended battle. In 1892 King Behanzin of Dahomey (now Benin) was at war with the French colonists over trading rights. He led his army of 12,000 troops, including 2,000 Amazons into battle. Despite the fact that the Dahomey army was armed only with rifles while the French had machine guns and cannons, the Amazons attacked when the French troops attempted a river crossing, inflicting heavy casualties. They engaged in hand to hand combat with the survivors eventually forcing the French army to retreat, but was later defeated, and the Amazons burned fields, villages and cities rather than let them fall to the French.

Important to remember when THEY talk about the Africa problems and drain on international aid resources that NOBODY invited THEM here. Colonialization was not a prize of advancement of some sort like sadly many people even with black skin continue to believe. Stop the r**e of humanity’s motherland - even with your mind. White countries were not ever and never will be “better” than Africa. Fear made them colonize us. Fear keeps us enslaved.

Minimum wage for non-tipped workers is 12.00/hour, to go up to 13.00/hour beginning July 1, 2019. This means that a two person household have the potential to gross $1,040.00 per week, $4,160.00 per month...lifting the working poor out of poverty. Does not have to be a husband/wife team...it can be a best friend thing, working together to get ahead. Everyone has to start somewhere...this is a tremendous start. Let's get rid of the black reservations in urban settings and aim for higher. No excuses, ok?

Courts hammer Trump for sabotaging Obamacare, in rulings that could cost the Treasury billions

Who is laughing now?
Court rulings have flooded in over the last few weeks, and the experts are right. The cost to the government could be $12 billion a year, payable to health insurers who were cheated by Trump’s action. That’s not chump change. As Nicholas Bagley of the University of Michigan wrote this week, “Insurers could buy us a damn border wall every year with that money.”

Federal judges have awarded health insurers billions in claims for Trump's effort to sabotage the Affordable Care Act.

Mapping the Candidates’ Machine Ties

Terms like “Chicago-style” politics and “the machine” have become ubiquitous nationwide to evoke corruption, quid pro quo arrangements, and nepotism. Of course “the machine” is not actually a machine—it is a shorthand for the relationships and strictly enforced loyalties that allowed the Democratic party to consolidate power in Chicago over the course of the twentieth century.

Chicago’s political history sometimes reads more like a House of Cards script than it does a civics lesson. Terms like “Chicago-style” politics and “the machine” have become ubiquitous nationwide to evoke corruption, quid pro quo arrangements, and nepotism. Of course “the machine” is n...

I'm looking for children from different neighborhoods (and different public schools) to include. Please email me at [email protected] this week, and I can share more details if you're interested. The children I've interviewed so far loved speaking with a journalist and found it to be a worthwhile experience.
