Great job to our OSC intern Amanda! 👏

Repost from @mychimyfuture

“This summer I have dedicated much of my time to being a library intern. I volunteered for three years at my neighborhood branch helping with the summer learning challenge until Ms. Jessie, a librarian at that branch, suggested I apply for the internship. I was very excited when I received the news that I had been accepted to the program.

Throughout these past few weeks I’ve learned more about what the library does for their communities and I have worked on creating a podcast episode. I chose to make mine on looking beyond history books when it comes to Latin American history and have had a blast throughout the whole process. This internship has also helped challenge me to think of creative and engaging ideas for programs that could be implemented in the library setting. My favorite part so far has been letting my creativity run wild. I am very grateful for this opportunity!” - Amanda

Congrats to OSC intern Jeremiah 👏

Repost from @mychimyfuture

“I was motivated to seek out a job where I can improve myself in a way where my skills are useful and I can improve my community. During my internship with the Chicago Transit Authority, I distributed health kits to my community in an attempt to improve it.

Throughout this experience, I have learned a lot more about Chicago regarding the train lines, different ways to carry myself during a job, etc. My favorite part about this experience is being able to interact with other members of my cohort and grow progressively throughout the weeks.” -Jeremieh

Check back next week to read another @1summerchicago Youth Spotlight story and hear about what Chicago youth have been up to this summer.

Obama reflects on 'Becoming a Man' program - CNN Video

Special congratulations to Youth Guidance as their Becoming A Man (BAM) program and Former President Barack Obama’s ongoing partnership with the program was featured with CNN's Anderson Cooper.

BAM was one of the key inspirations for the My Brother's Keeper Alliance and Youth Guidance was one of the inaugural MBK National Impact Award recipients.

Former President Barack Obama says his struggles early in life were "similar" to those of the young men he mentors in Chicago while reflecting on his path to the presidency in an exclusive interview with CNN's Anderson Cooper.

This past summer, our One Summer Chicago Chicagobility Youth created a mural to symbolize building a bridge through our communities with art and healing. With the help of 345 Art Gallery, our staff, and #Chicagobility Coach AJ Sanders, our youth's "Resilient" mural now hangs proudly outside Main Campus as a testament to the resilience in all of us. #FunFriday #WeAreLawrenceHall
