The Hire-a-Refugee Job Fair was a resounding success, bringing together over 700 motivated job seekers and 27 eager companies in a vibrant atmosphere of opportunity and support.

Job opportunities spanned a diverse range of sectors, catering to various skills and interests. Manufacturing, healthcare, cleaning, driving, and customer service were just a few of the fields represented, highlighting the fair's commitment to offering a variety of options for job seekers.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the participating companies, especially those who made on-the-spot hiring decisions, demonstrating their immediate commitment to finding talented individuals.

The event was a true testament to the diversity and resilience of the refugee community. Individuals from numerous countries and speaking various languages, including Russian, Ukrainian, Afghan, Mexican, Venezuelan, and Syrian, were all present, creating a rich tapestry of cultures and experiences.

We express our deepest gratitude to the dedicated interpreters who volunteered their skills, breaking down language barriers and fostering seamless communication throughout the day.

The Hire-a-Refugee Job Fair wasn't just about jobs; it was about providing holistic support to refugees navigating the challenges of resettlement. Social service agencies were present to offer assistance with essential matters like housing, food, legal support, and documentation, ensuring refugees have the necessary resources to thrive in their new communities.

We extend our sincere appreciation to State Representative Kevin Olickal for gracing the occasion with his presence and lending his support to this vital initiative.

Additionally, we acknowledge the invaluable contributions of Bill Morton and the Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce, the tirelessly dedicated volunteers who manned the registration table, and the staff of Misericordia for providing such an exceptional venue.

A special thank you goes to Larry Edward Smith, whose outstanding photography captured the essence of the event, preserving the joy, hope, and connections forged during the day.

Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce: Shop Small Saturday

Shopping small adds up — all year round

Making a difference in our community is as easy as shopping small.
Because when you support your favorite small businesses throughout
the year, you help our neighborhood thrive.

Every time you pick up a coffee at your local café, grab lunch at the mom-and-pop shop, or buy a new bag from a local store, you’re making an impact in our community. In fact, for every dollar spent at a small business in the U.S., approximately 67 cents stays in the local community.
