Mission: Theta Omega Chapter was established in 1922 as the eighth graduate chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. This was the beginning of an illustrious history. On October 14, 1981, the chapter established the AKArama Foundation as a separate entity with a nonprofit 501©(3) status. The mission of the AKArama Foundation, Inc. is to promote community service through volunteerism and socially conscious activities. The annual “AKArama” benefit is the primary source of funds for the foundation. Proceeds from the benefit are used to support or fully fund projects within the local, national and international communities. On February 12, 2007 the AKArama Foundation, Inc. opened its door to a state of the art Community Service Center to provide educational, cultural and socio-economic development services for the youth, families and seniors in the Woodlawn community and beyond through programs. The goals of the foundation’s programs are designed to strengthen the economic, educational, social and emotional health of our community.

Join Theta Omega Chapter, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated and the Chicago Urban League for a screening of Episode III in the documentary series, the Shame of Chicago - The Color Tax. The Color Tax tells the story of how a system of predatory home contract sales during the 1950s and 60s plundered enormous sums of wealth from the pockets of black families seeking homeownership. But unlike what happened in other cities, Chicago’s families fought back in one of city’s most heart-wrenching and perilous campaigns for racial and economic justice. Reverend William Barber, co-director of the National Poor People’s Campaign, A National Call for Moral Revival writes, “The Color Tax paints with vivid clarity perhaps America's most striking example of systemic racism.”

The screening will be immediately followed by a panel discussion with the film producer Bruce Orenstein, Margaret Wooten, VP of Housing and Financial Empowerment, Chicago Urban League, Mary Pattillo, Harold Washington Professor of Sociology and Chair, Department of African American Studies, Northwestern University, and Nykea Pippion McGriff, GRI, Chicago Association of Realtors. Moderated by Yolanda Daniel #realestate #equity

Join us on Facebook Live Saturday, October 24, 2020 for the Central Region's Lead & Order Series, "Justice Is Charmed: Voter Empowerment Summit” as we continue our conversation on the importance of voting. Hear from panelists who have dedicated themselves to public service; learn about the issues plaguing our communities; commit to going to the polls and ensuring that others get there as well.

Too many marched and too many died for us not to exercise our right to vote. This year, commit to being an informed, knowledgeable voter and join us on Saturday morning!

This event is sponsored by the Central Region State Connection Coordinators and the Central Region Cluster Coordinators.
