U.S. Coast Guard
THE BUOY YARD!!!
Aids to Navigation Team New York's grimy and important mission to keep the New York waterways safe for #maritimecommerce.
Beauty is all about perspective - and perhaps 17-foot tall, 10-ton buoys covered in barnacles, salt water erosion and all manner of ilk that you don't notice when you're watching those big commercial ships travel through the harbors in the port of New York and New Jersey and all up and down the Hudson River don't necessarily twinkle in your eyes , but the maritime commerce world smiles whenever they pop up because they are guiding their way to get you the goods and services you use every day!
ANT New York is one of the largest aids to navigation teams in the Coast Guard with 21 active duty personnel and two 49-foot Buoy Utility Stern Loading boats and two 26-foot Trailerable Aids to Navigation Boats .
The ANT works in the largest #MaritimeTransportationSystem on the Eastern Seaboard which yields nearly $6.6 billion of commerce per day ($2.4 trillion annually) maintaining nearly 1000 primary and secondary navigational aids throughout their nearly 1,600 square mile area of operations.
In addition to the ANT, Bayonne, NJ is home port to the largest black hull fleet with Coast Guard Cutters Katherine Walker, Penobscot Bay, Sturgeon Bay, Hawser, and Line conducting #searchandrescue, #AidstoNavigation, #PortandWaterwaysCoastalSecurity, Law #Enforcement, and Domestic #Icebreaking as their primary missions.
