The Cook County School District 130 Board of Education has put out a Custodial Services Q&A with misleading information. Blue Island families deserve to know the truth.
On July 14, our members reached a tentative agreement with the District on all proposals with the exception of their demand we waive our right to bargain over outsourcing. Their demand was illegal and not permissive under bargaining.
On July 18, our members ratified the tentative agreement.
On July 21, the Board refused to vote on the tentative agreement.
On August 18, the Board once again refused to vote on the tentative agreement and subsequently voted to outsource the custodial work and layoff the custodial workers.
SEIU Local 73 has filed Unfair Labor Practice Charges over the Board's refusal to recognize our tentative agreement and outsource the custodial work.
The custodians are ready to go back to work. The Board of Education is refusing to the let them do their jobs.
Blue Island families deserve to know why the Board laid off custodians, who have all received high praise in their work evaluations, at the start of the school year, with no plan in place to keep the schools clean and safe.
