Día de los Mu***os at Malcolm X College continues! This presentation will include remarks from the MXC Administration, information about the holiday and its significance, and an explanation of the altar. Members of the audience can speak about their friends and families that have passed. The presentation will be followed by a reception with pan dulce and café de olla, which has been donated by community organizations Back of the Yards Coffee Co. and Grecia’s Bakery.

“Vista a Nuestros Mu***os (Visit to our Dead)” is a dance film that portrays four dancers with solos, teach telling a personal story about deceased loved one, traveling to the spiritual world to visit them, and as a group celebrating their loved ones with beauty, grace, and color. Text for this film was provided by Lani Montreal, MXC Faculty in English, Literature, and Speech.

Sugar skulls are a part of the Día de los Mu***os celebration, challenging the idea that death is frightening, macabre, and to be avoided. Come and decorate your own skull (made of clay instead of sugar), led by Alejandra Chavez, Coordinator of Student Activities.
