Happy Pride, everyone! Last week I kicked off the month at a joyous, powerful celebration with LGBTQ+ leaders, neighbors, historians, educators, advocates, families, and allies from across the north side. Throughout all history, LGBTQ+ people have held positions of esteem, leadership, and influence. It is a beautiful thing and it shows us that Pride is eternal - something that can liberate us and take us to the next chapter of American history. LGBTQ+ people have shaped humanity’s past, present, and future and I look forward to celebrating Pride with all of you!

The Transportation Network Driver Labor Relations Act, which grants rideshare workers the right to organize, has just passed the Senate as HB5090! As a Chief Co-Sponsor alongside Senator Villivalam, I am thrilled rideshare drivers will soon have the right to bargain for benefits and appeal unjust deactivations.

Shoutout to the Illinois Drivers Alliance for their well-organized advocacy in Springfield over the past two weeks!

Earlier today it was my honor to welcome Senator Durbin to a historic joint session of the Illinois House and Senate in his honor, celebrating his 44 years of public service. I was honored to share remarks where I talked about my days as a legislative aide in his Capitol Hill office, where I learned to prioritize constituents and find solutions for them -- so important right now.

Senator Durbin's legacy will shine in Illinois history — and American history — as a proud son of our great state who made a huge impact in the United States Senate. He delivered time and again for Illinois, for our country, and for the US Senate as a democratic institution for more than a generation. We appreciate his exceptional service and wish him a very happy retirement.

Renters deserve the opportunity to become home owners, and we have a bill to make this dream possible.

Senate Bill 332 would establish a Right of First Refusal for renters living in a multi-unit building that is set to be sold. This would give tenants and tenant associations first dibs on purchasing their building if it comes up for sale, and a 90-day notice to tenants from the property owner before accepting or listing a building sale.

Watch my press conference above for full details about this exiciting bill that will combat housing displacement, gentrification, and private equity takeover of our housing supply.
