Thank you Toni Preckwinkle, President of the Cook County Board of Commissioners, for officially proclaiming September 2026 as Workforce Development Month.

Why should you care about Workforce Development Month? Because workforce development is economic development — and the most important return on investment is the one you make in yourself!

For The Partnership, workforce development is central to our mission of strengthening careers, businesses, and our regional economy. In the past program year, we’ve invested more than $20.2 million in training and helped thousands of career seekers prepare for in-demand roles.

As we continue celebrating Black Business Month, we're recognizing Black-owned businesses who are Partnership employer-partners that help strengthen our region's economy.

This week, we're spotlighting GBG Commercial Insurance, an independent insurance brokerage and risk management firm. Under the leadership of Vice President Michael-Charles Hilson, a third-generation insurance professional, GBG supports businesses, nonprofits and public-sector organizations with the expertise they need to manage risk and grow with confidence. Hilson says he appreciates the talent in The Partnership’s network and is proud to work with us.

We're proud to recognize GBG Commercial Insurance and the many Black-owned businesses whose leadership and commitment make our communities stronger.

Malik C. is currently deciding between several job offers — and he credits OAI, Inc., a member of our network, for helping him get here.

As he said, “[The team at OAI] helped me learn solar, and they’ve also helped me get my foot in the door within the construction field. I’m on track to graduate from a training program with multiple job offers on the line.”
