Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership

Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership The Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership is an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit organization led by a Board of business and civic leaders.
In 2011, Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and then Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel appointed a joint committee to evaluate the impact of combining City and County resources. The committee’s efforts resulted in a report which suggested 19 areas of collaboration—among them was workforce development. In this area each governmental body provided similar, yet disparate services under the auspices of the federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA). Despite geographic proximity, each administration maintained separate policies and initiatives with formal business engagement generally managed by delegate agencies. The Chicago Workforce Investment Council (CWIC), a non-profit workforce policy organization also provided direction and programming in this arena. By working together, without regard to geographic boundaries, both Cook County and the City of Chicago would broaden the reach of workforce services for employers and job seekers alike. With three primary goals in mind— reducing costs, improving services and engaging the business community—the Mayor and President together formed the largest nonprofit managed LWIA in the nation, the Chicago Cook Workforce Partnership. Its services are available to all residents and businesses within Cook County, including the City of Chicago and more than 200 other municipalities. Since its introduction in July 2012, The Partnership has implemented numerous policy changes to align occupational training services with current and projected business needs. Through its Business Relations and Economic Development team, The Partnership has amplified private sector awareness of the region’s workforce resources and has led to deeper business engagement.

Today, the Green Era and Urban Growers Collective (UGC) celebrated their new sustainability project in the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood. The Partnership will initially work with UGC and the General Contractor to identify and connect community hires to the clean-up and build-out phases of the project and later assist with the development of an apprenticeship program.

The project will create green jobs in renewable energy and urban agriculture, teach STEM curriculum to youth and provide nutritional resources and ongoing benefits to the South Side.

Today, on #WorkforceWednesday, we're highlighting Mary M. of Chicago Women in Trade (CWIT). The Partnership is a funder of the Technical Opportunities Program from which Mary graduated and started work as a mill cabinet apprentice. Mary credits her success to the support of CWIT, "CWIT is about more than the hard work of preparing women to transition into a new career. It's the sisterhood, the togetherness, the understanding that we need each other."

Hello Chicago, I am retiring from the military. I'm currently on terminal leave and I'm here back home spending time with family while I look for employment. I am a Contract Specialist/Procurement for the last 9yrs with the Army. I would LOVE to transition into the commercial side of procurement but since I don't know any of the systems and things like that nobody will hire me. I know federal and I know it's similar but everyone doesn't work in the same systems. I would love to learn them if someone is willing to train me.. I am on this site to see if I can get some assistance looking for jobs
