On 14 Aug 2026, Beat 1524 officers were patrolling the 1000 block of N. Mason when they observed an individual near Augusta and Division pull down their jacket, revealing a heavy object in the front waistband that was consistent with a firearm.

After becoming aware of the officers' presence, the individual immediately mounted a Lime scooter and fled while looking back toward the officers and clutching their waistband. Officers relocated to the 1000 block of N. Mason and conducted a street stop. The individual exited the scooter and was detained.

When asked about the location of the firearm, the individual indicated that it was concealed in their pants. Officers conducted a pat-down and recovered a G***k 22 .40-caliber semi-automatic pistol.

A records check indicated that the individual had a valid FOID card but no valid CCL. The individual was taken into custody without further incident.
