Consul General attends Pakistan Independence Day event in Wheaton, Illinois

Consul General Tariq Karim attended an event held in Wheaton, Illinois, to celebrate the Pakistan Independence Day. The event attracted a large number of people, including elected officials.
Speaking on the occasion, the Consul General highlighted the historic significance of Independence Day and the vital role of the vibrant Pakistani-American community in the socio-economic development of both Pakistan and the U.S. He encouraged community members to continue serving as a bridge between the two countries. Consul General attends Pakistan Independence Day Celebrations in Bolingbrook

Consul General Tariq Karim attended the 33rd annual flag hoisting ceremony and “Taste of Pakistan” event in Bolingbrook. The ceremony, organized by the Association of Pakistani Americans (APA) in Bolingbrook as part of the ongoing 77th anniversary of Pakistan's Independence Day celebrations, was attended by a large number of Pakistani-American community members, Bolingbrook Mayor Mary Alexander-Basta, former Mayor Roger C. Claar, APA President Talat Rashid, and other city officials. Consul General Tariq Karim, along with senior officials, hoisted the Pakistan flag.

Speaking at the event, the Consul General thanked the APA and the Village of Bolingbrook for establishing and continuing the tradition of organizing the Pakistan flag hoisting ceremony every year. He also highlighted the historical importance of Pakistan's Independence Day, the significance of the Pak-U.S. partnership, the contributions of the vibrant Pakistani-American community to the socio-economic development of both countries, and the bond between Sialkot and Bolingbrook as Sister Cities. He urged community members to continue playing an active role in promoting Pak-U.S. relations as bridge-builders.

The event also featured Pakistani music, cuisine, and traditional clothing. The Consulate displayed information on matters related to consular services.

A delegation of the Dawoodi Bohra community met Consul General

A delegation of the Dawoodi Bohra community visited PakinChicago to meet Consul General Tariq Karim. They expressed their gratitude for the exceptional support and facilitation extended by the Consulate General and the Government of Pakistan during their recent visit to Pakistan to participate in Ashara Mubaraka, emphasizing the resounding success of the event. In this regard they also delivered a letter from the Dawoodi Bohra community leadership. The Consul General warmly welcomed the delegation, expressed gratitude for selecting Karachi as the venue for the Ashara Mubaraka gathering, and reiterated Pakistan's commitment to facilitating such visits and fostering people-to-people interactions.

Consul General attends Pakistan Independence Day Event in Michigan

Consul General Tariq Karim participated in an event held in Detroit, Michigan, to celebrate Pakistan Independence Day. The event, organized by Pakistan Association of America (Michigan), was attended by a large number of people.

Speaking at the occasion as chief guest, the Consul General congratulated the Pakistani- American community on Pakistan’s Independence Day. He highlighted the historic significance of the Independence Day, significance of Pakistan as an important business and tourist destination, and role of the vibrant Pakistani-American community in the socio-economic development of the two countries. He urged the Pakistani diaspora to renew their commitment for Pakistan, demonstrate unity and continue to play their active role in the economic development of Pakistan and promoting the true image of the country.

The Consul General, along with PAA leadership, participated in the cake-cutting ceremony and also joined the Pakistan Independence Day parade in Michigan.

Separately, the Consul General also briefed the community members on various consular services being extended by the Consulate and responded to their queries. He also interacted with businessmen and encouraged them to avail investment opportunities in Pakistan.

The event in Michigan was part of a series of various programs and events organized across the Midwest region to celebrate Pakistan’s Independence Day.

USA-Pakistan Business Bridge Event held in Wisconsin

Consul General Tariq Karim attended and spoke at the USA-Pakistan Business Bridge Event held in Oak Creek, Wisconsin. The event was jointly organized by the City of Oak Creek and Miracle Salt Collective. Former caretaker Prime Minister and Senator Mr. Anwar-Ul-Haq-Kakar also attended and spoke at the occasion. Among other speakers included Oak Creek Mayor Dan Bukiewicz and MSCI President Ahmad Nadeem Khan.

Speaking at the occasion, the Consul General emphasized Pakistan as an important business and investment destination, various dimensions of the Pak-US relations, Pakistan’s growing economic, trade and investment partnership with the Midwest region. He urged the investors and businessmen to benefit from investment opportunities offered by Pakistan in different sectors.

Consul General Attended Pakistan Independence Day Event hosted by City of Aurora

Consul General Tariq Karim attended an event hosted by the city of Aurora (the second-largest city in Illinois) to celebrate Pakistan’s Independence Day. He hoisted the Pakistan flag. The event, organized by the Pakistani Association of Aurora and Naperville (PAAN), was attended by a large number of people, including elected officials.

Speaking at the event, the Consul General congratulated the Pakistani-American community on Pakistan's Independence Day, emphasizing the historic significance of the day. He highlighted Pakistan as an important business and tourist destination, the significance of the Pak-U.S. relationship, and the contributions made by the vibrant Pakistani-American community to the socio-economic development of the two countries. He thanked the city of Aurora for organizing the flag hoisting ceremony for the first time, while appreciating the PAAN leadership for their efforts to promote Pakistani culture. The Consul General also briefed about his major priorities and the growing partnership between Pakistan and the Midwest region. He urged the community members to renew their commitment to Pakistan and continue playing their active role in enhancing Pak-US partnership as bridge-builders.

In a Proclamation issued, Mayor Richard C. Irvin pledged the City of Aurora's support to Aurora's Pakistani-American community, recognizing Pakistan Independence Day in the City of Aurora.

During the ceremony, Consul General Tariq Karim was presented with the Aurora Crescent and Excellence (ACE) Award “for being an inspiring leader in Aurora's Pakistan American community who preserves the cultural and heritage of Pakistan while promoting progress and unity in Aurora.”

Event held by the Consulate General to celebrate 77th Anniversary of Pakistan Independence

The Consulate General of Pakistan in Chicago hosted a dignified event at Daley Center Plaza, a prominent square in downtown Chicago, to mark the 77th anniversary of Pakistan's Independence. Mr. Tariq Karim, Consul General of Pakistan in Chicago, hoisted the Pakistan flag at the Plaza. The event was attended by a large gathering of Pakistani-American community members representing diverse segments of society, along with a significant number of locals and members of the Consular Corps.

As a special gesture, Mayor of Chicago honorable Brandon Johnson participated in the Independence Day event as the Chief Guest. Other elected officials attending the event included Congressman Danny Davis, Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas, Bolingbrook Mayor Mary-Alexander Basta, and Glendale Heights Mayor Chodri Ma Khokhar.

In his remarks, Mayor Brandon Johnson extended his warm greetings to the Pakistani-American community while recognizing their tremendous contribution in shaping the diverse and vibrant fabric of Chicago. He stated that Chicago and Pakistan share a long history of friendship and cooperation.

In his address, Consul General Tariq Karim warmly felicitated the Pakistani-American community on Independence Day, underlining the historical significance of the occasion. He stated that, despite various challenges, Pakistan has achieved many milestones in the last 77 years. He emphasized that Pakistan's geographic location, demographic dividend, market size, rich human and natural resources, growing tech ecosystem, and liberal investment policies have made Pakistan an important economic and transit hub and investment destination in the world. He also highlighted Pakistan as a tourist destination, offering a wide range of sites for visitors. The Consul General also emphasized the steps taken by Pakistan to empower women and minorities. Drawing the attention of the international community to the plight of the oppressed people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK), he reaffirmed Pakistan's support for their legitimate struggle for the right to self-determination.

The Consul General stressed the significance of the longstanding partnership between Pakistan and the United States, highlighting immense potential for further enhancing their relationship in diverse fields. He noted that Pakistan’s partnership with the Midwest regions was growing, with an increase in trade, investment, and people-to-people contacts. He said the participation of the Mayor of Chicago and other senior elected officials in the Independence Day celebration reflected strong bonds of friendship.

Consul General Tariq Karim lauded the contribution made by the vibrant Pakistani-American community to the socio-economic development of both countries and their role as bridge-builders. Recalling Quaid's principles of Unity, Faith, and Discipline, he urged community members to renew their commitment to Pakistan and continue to play an active role in promoting Pak-U.S. relations.

Consul General Tariq Karim and Mayor Brandon Johnson also cut the Pakistan Independence Day Cake.

Messages of greetings/proclamations were received from a number of dignitaries, including Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers, U.S. Congressman Sean Casten, Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias, and Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul.

The event featured cultural performances, including national songs by Pakistani singers, engaging the audience in spirited celebrations of Pakistan's Independence Day.

In addition to the event organized by the Consulate General, the Pakistani-American community hosted a series of events to celebrate Independence Day in Chicago and across the Midwest region, which were also attended by the Consul General.

Consul General leads Pakistan Independence Day Parade

Consul General Tariq Karim led the Pakistan Independence Day Parade on Chicago’s Devon Avenue (also known as Muhammad Ali Jinnah Way). The parade was attended by a large number of people, including elected officials. Speaking at the occasion, the Consul General congratulated the members of the Pakistani-American community on the 77th Anniversary of Pakistan’s Independence Day, emphasizing the historical significance of the occasion and the vibrant role of the Pakistani-American community. Recalling Quaid's principles of Unity, Faith, and Discipline, he urged community members to renew their commitment to Pakistan and continue to play an active role in promoting Pak-U.S. relations.

The parade was part of a long series of festivities being organized to celebrate the Independence Day of Pakistan. The Consulate General will hold a flag hoisting ceremony and cultural show at Chicago’s Daley Plaza on August 13, 2024.
