Streets Are For Everybody Ambassadors help Chicagoans envision and achieve a safe, comfortable, heal
Chicago's SAFE Ambassadors and Junior Ambassadors are the City of Chicago’s traffic safety outreach team. We promote sharing the road and being aware of everyone else out there—people walking, using public transportation, biking and driving—and encourage everyone to walk and bike more.
Operating as usual
👀
CDOT currently has many open positions including one FOIA Officer, 11 Foreman of Cement Finishers, and over 100 seasonal positions. Some of these positions close this week! Visit the Chicago CAREERS website and search "Department of Transportation" in the drop down menu under "Organization" for more information.
Divvy is also hiring! Divvy, Chicago's bikeshare system, has two open positions for an assistant manager and a director. More information at bit.ly/divvyjobs.

And that's a wrap... all lanes and ramps are open at the Jane Byrne Interchange.
We educate about CDOT infrastructure updates by installing posters and talking with community members. During last week’s Chicago Mobility Collaborative meeting, attendees asked how they can get these posters, so we looked into it and now they’re available for advocates who would like to help neighbors understand recent street changes. Help us spread the word! Find the posters pictured here and others at https://chicagocompletestreets.org/safety/education/
🎅 Ride with traffic 🎄
People biking are required by law to ride in the same direction as cars. If there is no usable bike lane, ride as far to the right as possible! 🚲💨

The recent deaths of Elise Malary and Tatiana "Tee Tee" Labelle have pricked our consciousness to the continued violence and acts of hatred that trans women—especially Black trans women and trans women of color—face here in our city and across the country. Today, on #TransDayOfVisibility, we must condemn and speak out against this unacceptable reality, as well as work that much harder to create a city where all of our trans residents feel that they can safely and fully express themselves. I commend the many organizations and activists across our city who have been working tirelessly for years to do just that, and urge the police to work expediently and transparently to bring justice to Elise, Tee Tee, and the many other trans individuals who have fallen victim to hate. Today is #TransDayOfVisibility 🏳️⚧️ and I spoke with award-winning radio producer Morgan Sherm. A Southside native, Morgan advocates for the accurate representation and treatment of trans, gender nonconforming and nonbinary people. The City of Chicago is replacing over 270,000 outdated lights with better quality, more reliable, new energy-efficient LED lights. 💡 This smart lighting initiative will improve nighttime visibility and color recognition, improving safety for people walking, biking and driving. By converting to energy-efficient LED streetlights we are cutting our electricity usage by more than half, reducing energy costs. This means the city is undertaking one of the largest street lighting modernization programs in the country, that will transmit real time performance and service data. 🌟 More than half of the new streetlights were assembled right here in Chicago, creating skilled jobs and providing skills for residents.
