Catholic Charities Book Club Sign Up

We’re starting a book club and first up on our list is Tattoos on the Heart: The Power of Boundless Compassion by Father Gregory Boyle.

Tattoos on the Heart follows Father Greg as he explores the philosophy of radical kinship and mercy while working in Los Angeles amongst the crossfire of a community in crisis. Father Greg is the founder of Homeboy Industries-- a restorative justice job opportunity center that provides formerly incarcerated folks with the career development training, kinship and support to get back on their feet.

Our first book club meeting will be on Wednesday, January 27th at 6:00 PM via Zoom and we will meet every other week on Wednesdays as we move through the book.

All are welcome and we'd love to have you join in on the conversation, even if you can only join for a few meetings or pop in!

Sign up for the book club and to get the Zoom link for the meeting here: https://forms.gle/re1cEXLxZ48XyJ2TA

A big welcome to Sally!!

This week we welcomed Sally Blount as our 8th president since George Cardinal Mundelein formed the agency in 1917. Sally is the first layperson and first woman to lead Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago, and comes to us from the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University where she is a professor and was dean from 2010-2018.

Sally, we’re so pleased you’re here and look forward to our
work together!

As we celebrate today, we’re reminded of Roosevelt’s Four Freedoms: freedom of speech, freedom of worship, freedom from want, and freedom from fear. There's still important work to be done to make sure these freedoms are a reality for all Americans. We can do that work #together!

We are so thankful for our volunteers and are always open to more!

#Juneteenth is a holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the US. As many of us celebrate today, we also know that true #freedom requires our continued collective and urgent action to end disparities across criminal justice, employment, housing, health, education, and more.
