2c2i by the Exelon Foundation & Exelon
Exelon Foundation and Exelon have selected 10 startups to receive a combined total of $1 million in direct funding to develop new technologies to mitigate & build resiliency to the impacts of #ClimateChange in the inaugural year of our $20 million Climate Change Investment Initiative (#2c2i). Led by the Exelon Foundation, a non-profit philanthropic organization, 2c2i directly invests in the projects and people helping to address climate change mitigation and build resiliency to health and environmental pressures in the most under-resourced communities within our service area. Applicants were also required to demonstrate how their projects would meaningfully advance state and local jurisdictions’ own sustainability goals under the US Climate Alliance.
The Exelon Foundation will invest $10 million over 10 years in early-stage startups working on climate change mitigation, adaptation & resiliency. Exelon Corporation will match those funds with up to a $10 million investment of in-kind services, including mentoring entrepreneurs on ways to access other sources of capital, structure business plans, allocate financial resources and meet regulatory requirements.
Of the startups for the inaugural round of funding:
-50% are minority/women-owned businesses
-60% of the projects are focused on greenhouse gas mitigation
-40% on resiliency & adaptation
-all but one are already active in communities within Exelon’s service area
After months of work, we are excited to announce the 2c2i selected startups to receive $100,000 from the Exelon Foundation. We’ll be posting about each of the startups today, so be sure to check Facebook throughout the day to learn about these innovative startups.
