It was that time of year again, and our cadets knocked it out of the ballpark! This year for FTX, our CST-Bound cadets with cadets from other battalions applied what they’ve been learning in the classroom out in the field: Battle Drills, Land Navigation, Lanes, and more. Fire Battalion Alumni Spotlight!
Congratulations to 2021 Fire Battalion graduates 2LT Daniel Schreiner (Purdue University Northwest) and 2LT Philip Posner (University of Chicago). These two infantry officers recently completed the United States Army Ranger School and are moving on to their first assignments.

➖Fire BN Nominee for George C. Marshall Award: Paulina Kulyavstev!!!➖

Academic Major: Physics, Candidate for Bachelor of Science
CDT Kulyavstev, as of now, oversees and helps manage SERVE, Tactics Team, and Cadet Advisory Council, as well as works closely with the S3 and rest of the Top 5 to plan and execute BN training as the Operations SGM. She also works with entities outside the BN, such as other schools and commercial companies, to connect the program with the local community.
She has mentioned that our program has shown her mentorship in many forms, from the guidance and lessons she learns from cadre to the complexity of peer-to-peer leadership, to nourishing the underclassmen to become better cadets and Soldiers. Her favorite moments have been the times she pushed past her expected limits and found that potential and possibilities are only as limited as her imagination makes them be. She cherishes the strong friendships formed through the ROTC program and that she has many friends who she also looks up to for outstanding leadership.
CDT Kulyavstev Comments on the Virtual GCM Event last week: “The GCM Event was an incredible experience. I appreciated that so many people came together to make it possible, and I feel lucky that I got to hear from so many General Officers who have the big picture view on what the Army is both from their experience and their expertise. It was especially moving to hear from female and minority leaders, and to see such inspiring women share their advice as to how to become better leaders.”
CDT Kulyavstev will be commissioned into Illinois National Guard Engineer Branch in May.She hopes to go to Sapper School, Grad School, and partner her military experience with research in Quantum Devices in the Department of Energy.
We are extremely proud to not only have her in our program but that others have noticed her amazing work as well. Fire on 🔥

➖Northern Warfare Day 2➖

➖Northern Warfare Day 1➖
Who completed the “toughest challenge in ROTC”? Our amazing Northern Warfare Challenge team who got 18/38 teams!🔥 Fire Battalion is proud of their hard work, so this week we will be posting highlights from this past weekend! 💪🏽
What is the Northern Warfare Competition? : It is a written and skills tests on operating in colder climes (knots, fire making, TCCC, and rappel). The second day the course held a 16 mi trail ruck that included 3mi SKEDCO drag and ended with a rappel (only the first 20 teams to finish got to rappel, so we didn't get that chance this year). It was an ambient -2 degrees with a windchill, making it feel like -17—snow on the ground and some fresh precipitation during the skills test. ❄ Rumor has it next year's will include marksmanship! It's a pretty cool opportunity for Cadets to compete in up near Fort McCoy, WI. Cadets that went up were CDT Sun, CDT Morales, CDT Suarez, CDT Dela Rosa, CDT Glazener, and CDT Jaffe (5 competitors and 1 alternate)

➖6-Mile Ruck, BG Harrison Visit & More➖
This week the snow didn’t stop our Cadets from working hard, and as a battalion, CST-bound cadets were able to conduct a ruck yesterday. On Tuesday, our MSV’s were visited by Brigadier General Richard A. Harrison. We appreciated the visit and the advice we were given! Then throughout the week, our CDT’s were stars in lead labs and PT. ➖Alpha Co. Change of Command Ceremony➖
Alpha Co. has conducted their ceremony this past Tuesday!! In the military and other organizations, commanding officers conduct a change of command between the incoming commander and the outgoing commander. The change of command ceremony is a final passing of responsibility, authority and accountability of command from one leader to another. Therefore congrats to CDT Cordova as the new Company Commander and CDT Sardon as the new 1SGT!! 🎉🎊 Congrats to CDT Orlando as well for moving to Battalion Staff as S2! Fire On 🔥

➖End of the Semester Highlights➖
This semester is finally ending, but that did not stop our Battalion from having events. First, there was the Army Ten-Miler which the first two photos show who participated. Then there was the African American Leaders of the Army Discussion Panel. Thank you to those on the discussion panel and those who showed up! Lastly, Alpha Company held their end-of-the-year banquet (ugly sweater theme), and Bravo had their last fun PT. Alpha Company did announce their new leadership at the banquet; therefore, a huge S/o to CDT Cardova as the new Company Commander and CDT Sardon as the new 1SGT!! 🎉🎊 Congrats to CDT Orlando as well for moving to Battalion Staff! Happy Thanksgiving, Everyone! We hope today is filled with love and a lot of food. As you celebrate today, we want to show off our outstanding Cadets. This past Sunday, they competed in a seven-on-seven flag football game against the Chicago Naval ROTC with Rambler Battalion and won! Go Army! ➖Food Drive & Food Ruck/ Northern Warfare Challenge Team Tryout➖
We hope you are all keeping warm today! Here are some highlights from our Second annual Food Drive and Food Ruck from this Monday. Cadets rucked 6.8 miles to deliver food to the Greater Chicago Food Depository. Then, yesterday, some of our Cadets participated in the Northern Warfare Challenge Team Tryouts’. We were so impressed by their hard work.

➖Happy Veteran’s Day!➖
Less than one percent of Americans raise their right hand and swear an oath to defend our country with their lives. Today, we commemorate and pay tribute to those honored few Americans who have sacrificed so much to support and protect our way of life.
Many veterans do not stop serving upon retiring from the military. They continue to serve their communities and our country in many ways. Veterans work as teachers in our schools, first responders at our local precincts and firehouses, and doctors in our hospitals. Anyone who knows a veteran knows well of the impact and the value they bring to our lives. For this, and for their sacrifices to our nation, they deserve our unwavering gratitude.
While today is set aside to dedicate to our veterans, I want to encourage all of us as soldiers and leaders to keep the veterans in our hearts and minds every day. And to look to them as examples and the brave men and women who came before us. Thank the veterans in your life and the veterans you see in your communities. Additionally, remember the families of the veterans and service members, for they also make certain sacrifices in support of their children, grandchildren, spouses, siblings, and parents in their times of service.

➖Hot Chocolate Run/AirSoft Event➖
We hope you are all having a great week so far! Our Battalion just wanted to give a S/o to CDT Dugan, CDT Doyle, and CDT Kane for running 9.3 miles at the Hot Chocolate run we volunteered to help in! Great job ya’ll 🎉🎊
Then the day before, our Tactics Team held an AirSoft Event that consisted of four different activities and games that allowed CDT’s to train with battle drills. It looked like so much fun ☺️

➖ 9/11 Memorial Remembrance Ceremony➖
It was an honor for Fire Battalion cadets to attend the 9/11 Memorial Remembrance Ceremony hosted by and their Students Helping Soldiers org. Guest speaker Retired NYFD Squad 41 Scott Schrimpe recounted his experience at North Tower 20 years ago. It put the events of that day into perspective for many of us, especially those who were too young to remember anything. We thank you for sharing your story, for your bravery, and your commitment to duty and country.
Thank you to all police, firemen, and service members that had made sacrifices for this country. Nerver forget.

The first part is next Tuesday, May 28th. You will learn the basics of how to create a LinkedIn account, and get linkedIn pictures taken. You will also get a chance to practice your interview skills and get your resume looked at!
The second part is on Thursday, June 6, where you will learn how to obtain Federal and State employment, and network with over 50 companies looking to hire YOU!
